Put Roston Chase name on a team sheet and T20 is not the first thing that comes to mind. Tall, unhurried, bowls his offspin like he has all day. In Tests his best bowling figures are better than Ashwin's and Jadeja's and his highest score of 194 is bigger than what Rahane,Travis Head and Pant have ever managed. So most of us tag him as a red ball player and stop thinking about him.
But look at what he does for West Indies in white ball cricket. Since 2024 he has taken 37 T20I wickets at economy of 7.73. Not exciting I know.
Now line him up against Kuldeep,Adil Rashid,Zampa and Maharaj over that same stretch and Chase economy is better than every one of them. In ODIs in this decade of 2020s it's the same story again. 37 wickets in 45 innings, econkmy of 5.05, tighter than Kuldeep,Zampa and Rashid.
He also wins matches, not just overs. Since 2024 he has picked up 5 Player of the Match awards in T20Is and no other West Indies player has won as many in that period.
Will he get you wickets in bunches like those spinners? No. What he gives is control, the kind of work that lets rest of the team breathe and you only spot it if you are looking.
Even after more than 10 years in international cricket and almost an equal number of games across all 3 formats, fans still haven't given him his due.
He is also on the verge of 5000 international runs and 200 wickets. Very few players have managed both in last 10 years.
So next time he comes on to bowl, put your phone down and count the dot balls instead of sixes. Just watch him bowl. Nothing dramatic will happen andthat is the whole point.
Classic Durban, off for bad light at 15h20
This is why Polly introduced the idea of having the option to play with a pink ball in day Tests at venues where play is often cut short
In a bat v bat contest, the West Indies will always be dangerous. But what I see is they are now prepared to take the odd single after playing a dot or two.
Even Romario Shepherd is trying to do that.
For the first time in history, nobody in the Australian Test team is aged under 30.
The youngest player, Matthew Renshaw, made his Test debut in 2016.

A photograph of Middlesex legend Wayne Daniel I took during the 1984 season. I can still see him, shirt unbuttoned halfway, chest wider than I had seen on a man, bowling with fearsome pace season after season at Lord's. In 214 first-class matches for the county between 1977 and 1987 he took 685 wickets at 22.02 and 316 one-day wickets at 17.41
A new Ranji season brings with it the promise of new faces, new heroes and compelling storylines. J&K's journey last season showed just how much a domestic season can offer. Here’s why the 92nd edition has something for everyone 👇https://t.co/OrBXWHROr1
Steve Smith wandered out to bat in Durban today to a rather mute reception in his first Test innings back in South Africa since #Sandpapergate
Graham, whose dad Andrew Hudson played 35 Tests for the Proteas, and his mate Hayden on the action so far from the stands. @FoxCricket
The former RSA opener, Andrew Hudson's son, Graham, has played club cricket in NZL & in England. He's lived in Aus, before getting home during Covid. He's become Pianist since then, including doing gigs & shows.
A fascinating story on Graham Hudon of Kwa-Zulu #Natal.

Wish him the very best, but Nic Maddison opening the batting for Australia in an away test to South Africa is… well, perhaps the greatest testament to where our batting depth is right now.
Hayden was spot on.
