โDonโt you think writing on Jews is rather narrowโ was the first question they asked me at a job interview by the head of a red brick Eng Lit dept.
So students who want to write exclusively on black writers are warned that their dissertations/portfolios might be a bit narrow--even if they range from the Caribbean to Britain and America. But I've never seen a piece of work covering Byron, Keats, Shelley condemned as 'narrow'.
Today is the first anniversary of my dad's death. Antisemitism has been reborn with a vengeance in that time. He'd not have been surprised to see its foul resurgence, or the farcical World Cup for the super-rich taking place next month. He foresaw it all. Writers are prophets.
Sydney, this is where the story ends.
