NEW: The pilot who was stabbed on the FlyDubai flight by his terrorist co-pilot was able to open the release on the cockpit door as he lay covered in blood on the floor.

The quick thinking allowed the Israeli passengers to storm the cockpit and subdue the terrorist, according to Reuters.

An Israeli official identified the co-pilot as an Omani national.

A second set of pilots on board took over and landed the plane. The pilots were due to replace the first pair after landing.

According to flight data, the plane "went into a spin" and plunged 14,000 feet in just 30 seconds.

170 Israelis were on board. They are now back at the Tel Aviv airport.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu in a first response to the attempted hijacking of a flydubai flight to Tel Aviv:

During the flight, as they approached Israel, one of the pilots stabbed the other and apparently attempted to crash the plane, with everyone on board.

I spoke with one of the Israeli passengers. He told me that, somehow, he managed to break into the cockpit with one of the crew members, and together they subdued the pilot who had committed the stabbing while he was attempting to sabotage the aircraft's systems. Another flight crew member entered the cockpit and managed to stabilize the plane.

I salute these heroes who demonstrated resourcefulness and extraordinary courage. They saved many lives and averted a terrible disaster.

The pilot who committed the stabbing has been arrested and is currently being interrogated by Saudi authorities.

We are maintaining close contact with the relevant authorities to ensure the continued safety of the individuals involved and to ensure their safe return to Israel.

I have instructed the security agencies to prepare for other potential threats. We are maintaining ongoing situational assessments.

The most severe drought in (modern day) New Mexico was found to last 23 years from 1724 to 1746, with cumulative PDSI magnitude of −41.56. There was a 22-year long drought from 1566 to 1587 with a cumulative PDSI of –37.09. Only one of the top ten has been within the last 350 years.

Nine of the ten wettest periods occurred more than 1,000 years ago. The 20th century was unusually wet compared to much of the last millennium.

Can you explain how those occurred with pre-industrial atmospheric CO₂ levels?

As for coastal flooding, well, that doesn’t affect New Mexico. Your state does not border the ocean.
