A map rooted in data that creates wards that keep Chicago’s communities whole so that your alderperson represents your entire community, not a portion of it.
We’re disappointed some of our colleagues chose to save themselves over the Latino community. This ‘Welcoming City’s’ elected representatives have proven that they’ll let us in, but our voices do not count.
As a result, Latinos lost for the second decade in a row. The largest minority population in Chicago won’t be fairly and accurately represented as such. The voices of immigrant populations remain on the fringes.
Chicago: You talked. We listened. Our map was drawn on #community input and in a partnership with the people of Chicago. We made sure to keep more communities whole so that neighborhoods are less divided and there is true ward focus.
Letter signed by the 14 remaining supporters of the @ChicagoMap2022 says they are “disappointed” that Ald. Felix Cardona “flip flopped” and decided to back the @chiunitedmap instead. Call his decision “cynical” and different from what he had told them as recently as this morning.
We will continue to fight for a ward map that is #fair to all communities, a map that follows the U.S. #censusdata, and keeps neighborhoods together by drawing clear, straight lines. #YourCityYourVoice#PeoplesCoalitionMap
Unfortunately, this morning, we learned via press release that @AldermanCardona had endorsed the @chiunitedmap, produced by the Chicago City Council Rules Committee and Mike Kasper – Michael Madigan’s longtime political ally and attorney.
Today’s cynical move by @AldermanCardona and the @chiunitedmap campaign does not change the fact that the voters will decide which map they prefer on June 28.
Say goodbye to corrupt backroom deals. Chicagoans deserve to vote for #fairrepresentation in the City’s ward map that will stay in place for the next decade. Our map keeps communities whole and fairly represents the changing demographics. Learn more at https://t.co/SkNsRUSTZh
We are at a point in our City’s history where the people have the power to choose a map with the interests of individual neighborhoods in mind, not the interests of their politicians. Take action now & donate to be a part of history 💰 https://t.co/V8os6MJEjq #TakeActionTuesday
The @chiunitedmap does not follow U.S census data. It disenfranchises immigrant communities & would cost taxpayers millions in lawsuits 💸
We can’t allow the ward map to discriminate against immigrants for the next ten years. Visit https://t.co/SkNsRVavnR to learn more.
Latino Chicagoans have seen their life expectancy drop by more than seven years since 2012 — the steepest decline among any racial and ethnic group in the city. https://t.co/7QQZSSKPQn
"The old Springfield playbook was dusted off and a series of smoke and mirror meetings were called behind closed doors with the stated purpose of forging compromise." @AldermanTabares
The People’s Coalition Map is backed by a group of Black, Brown and white aldermen w/ diverse views on the issues facing the city. But we all agree that 2+2=4 and that the city’s map should be based on numbers, not fake math, @AldermanTabares writes.

Currently, Chicago Lawn lacks cohesive representation in #citycouncil. With no alderperson living there, there is no ward focus.
In our map proposal, the 17th Ward represents 80% of Chicago Lawn residents, making a ward focused on Chicago Lawn residents.

“When our neighborhoods don’t have to be broken up among multiple wards, they’re more compact and connected, allowing residents to be better represented by their Alderpeople and better able to access vital constituent services,” @aldcardenas said.
