Islamophobia is much more than “anti-Muslim hate”: it is a complex, multi layered sophisticated system of discrimination and oppression embedded in global power structures. It is a deeply intersectional system that overlaps sexism, racism, imperialism, classism, casteism and extends its reach to target non Muslim individuals and groups that share any perceived characteristics (Sikhs, South Asians, etc) it operates privately, interpersonally, dialectically, institutionally. it is normalized via cultural and political attitudes, language, practices, policies and laws. It is also not a recent phenomenon birthed from 9/11.
