IV complications can rapidly become serious.

Watch for infection, phlebitis, infiltration, extravasation, hematoma and air embolism. Pain, redness, swelling, leakage or sudden breathlessness requires immediate assessment. Stop the infusion when infiltration or extravasation is suspected—but initially leave the cannula in place for aspiration and possible antidote administration.

This study focuses on:

▪️How should a bifrontal decompressive craniectomy be performed?
▪️How should burr-hole placement be planned?
▪️What are the most commonly used techniques?
▪️How extensive should the bony decompression be?
▪️One-piece or two-piece craniectomy?
▪️What is the bucket-handle technique?
▪️How should the durotomy be performed?

In this study, we also revisited bifrontal decompressive craniectomy from both clinical and technical perspectives. We reviewed its indications, operative techniques, and reported outcomes across the literature, particularly in severe TBI and malignant bifrontal cerebral swelling, and complemented our systematic review with cadaveric dissections illustrating the surgical technique and relevant anatomical considerations.
We also examined functional outcomes, timing of decompression and cranioplasty, and considerations surrounding patient selection.
