Our thoughts are with children & communities affected by #CycloneFreddy that has made a second landfall in #Mozambique barely 3 weeks since its first. We're already responding in provinces hit by the first landfall and are now scaling up efforts to support affected communities.
#Drought in the #HornofAfrica continues to worsen.
Humanitarian organizations have assisted over 9 million people in 2022.
But lives will be lost if more funding is not received soon.
Private sector can also help.

Because in the time it took you to read this tweet, a child has died of hunger. #Ethiopia#Madagascar#SouthSudan#Yemen and many more.
16 million people died from hunger since Covid arrived. That's roughly 1,000 people every hour. Where's the news? Where's the outrage??
I joined @AAzoulay at @UofSC to talk about how fair, accurate & balanced media coverage is critical. If you're reading this, spread the word!
Preparedness pays off! In #Bangladesh, @WFP provided cash support 4 days ahead of massive flooding, which helped us to reach families up to 100 days faster and at HALF the cost of an average humanitarian response. #AnticipatoryِِAction protects lives before they need saving.
🇭🇹 HAITI UPDATE: the search and rescue team (@ffxfirerescue & @VATF1) has arrived in Haiti to help search for survivors. The team includes 65 people, 4 canines + 52K pounds of tools & equipment. They’ll be joining our USAID disaster response team already on the ground.
We are devastated to hear of the earthquake in Southern Haiti. Plan International staff are on standby, ready to respond. Our experience shows that children, especially girls, women & the poorest communities are often the hardest hit by crises like this #haitiearthquake2021
Thanks .@nytimes for helping bring this growing crisis to the world’s attention. We urgently need $6bn to reach the 41 million people teetering on the brink of starvation. If we turn our backs on them they will go over the edge. We must act NOW to prevent famine from taking hold!
WFP runs out of food in #Tigray this Friday. It takes 100 trucks per day to reach everyone we are aiming to feed. 170 trucks bound for Tigray with food and other supplies are stuck right now in Afar and can’t leave. These trucks must be allowed to move NOW. People are starving.
World hunger is on the rise.
🔴Up to 811 million hungry people in the world in 2020
🟠 149 million children under 5 stunted

A major lesson that has come out of our work is to always assume that Armed Forces & Armed Groups have recruited girls, otherwise we will miss an opportunity to identify them. The release of girls should, for example, be included in all negotiations with armed forces and groups.
400K people marching towards starvation
14K people in famine-like conditions
This is the situation in southern #Madagascar, where climate change is tearing families apart. If we do not act ASAP, the number of people facing starvation will reach 500K in a few short months.
In 2021, the world faces an elevated risk of famine.
@FAO and @WFP are urgently seeking new funding to scale up humanitarian response.
