Can any AI evade threats without any kind of reinforcement learning or training data? Nope.
You know what can evade threats in real time without any kind of reinforcement learning or training data?
The Corvus Corone or "carrion crow".
A crow.
No training, just instinct.
Raw intelligence can only be made through natural evolution.
There's no AGI coming. Ever.
It's China's export strategy that has improved the quality of life for the majority of G7 nations.
Cars. Electronics. Household goods.
You name it, it's made in China. And it's at a better price that anything equivalent that comes from elsewhere.
And these morons want to double down on China.
Do they even understand that quality of life depends on purchasing power and that through these idiotic ideas they have, they will reduce the quality of life of their own citizens?
They'd be better of kicking the US out of the G7 and sanctioning the US for all the harm the US has caused to the world economy over the last 18 months.
This is quite naive for a couple of reasons.
1. Anthropic already bought capacity from the same pool
2. Google owns six percent of SpaceX
It's more likely that it's a tactic to drive up the SpaceX share price short term so Google can turn the equity into cash.
The contract with SpaceX for the compute is clear that Google can exit the contract with "mutual agreement" with SpaceX by December 31, 2026.
It's nothing but stock price manipulation.
I just realised that Google might actually be buying this compute in part to stop anyone else from buying that capacity.
Blocking other companies from buying compute could alone be worth billions of dollars (making sure competitors like Anthropic are capacity constrained).
I started doing shorts and buying puts late May because I see an unmitigated disaster unfolding.
Trump is interfering now, so I may need to take a hit in the short term at least.
I'm very suspicious he's gonna sign an EO on taking stakes in AI companies if SpaceX gets smashed post IPO.
The whole thing is political and reeks of manipulation and dishonesty.
@Niya2niya_magic@GaryMarcus Like humans on Mars by 2025.
The NYT did an article recently about all the predictions that Noel makes which don't eventuate.
I was onto it way before the NYT.
Noel's greatest skill is misleading the unintelligent.
It's not because AI replaced these people.
It's because AI is expensive and companies that use AI at scale, which is mostly the tech companies, are trimming long term liabilities on their books to offset the dollars they are burning on AI.
Can we start taking bets on whether the US government will take stakes in all three?
If you look at how much money this administration has put into other companies, I'd say the odds are in favour of the government taking stakes in all three, even though they dissed Anthropic in recent times.
@GaryMarcus@geoffreyhinton@Pontifex The current pope has at least one hundred times the intelligence of clowns like Hassabis and Musk.
A thousand times more than Altman and Dario.
And when it comes to wisdom, he's at a factor of over a trillion times more than all four of those morons.
This proves that data centers in space will never be economically viable.
When you can't even utilize what you built here on earth and have to lease the capacity to others, you will not be building more capacity in space.
When SpaceX has excess capacity to lease compute to Google here on earth, you realize that data centers in space aren't required and will never ever make economic sense.
So @BernieSanders is often called a socialist but now that DJT is thinking about the same thing, which is the US government taking a stake in AI companies, who is the real socialist?
Don't forget that the US government has already taken a stake in Intel, given money to IBM as well as given money or taken up percentage equity in many many more companies.
This is happening in a country that doesn't even have universal healthcare because that's "socialism".
What everyone across the world keeps seeing is how stupid the American people are to keep falling for the idea that universal healthcare is "socialism" but the government giving taxpayer money away to private corporations or buying stakes in those corporations, isn't socialism.
Braindead moroseness has infected the vast majority of the American population.
All that money spent, with really no useful outcome achieved.
It's a uniquely American thing.
But no surprise from the country that gave the world Dumb and Dumber.
At least the movie was funny.
But for many Americans the upcoming correction won't be funny at all.
But, no sympathy here. It's all well deserved.
A better idea would have been to take the advice of C3PO in Star Wars, "I suggest a new strategy. Let the wookie win."
Let the Chinese win.
Because they are going to win anyway.
The real fallacies in building apocalypse bunkers in NZ are as follows:
1. New Zealand is at the end of the global supply chain, they import pretty much every thing except sheep
2. In a global apocalypse scenario New Zealand will suffer more than other countries due to its small size and it's distance from places which supply essentials
3. Scarcity will come to New Zealand in a global apocalypse before it comes to many other places
These billionaires thinking that they are going to be living the good life in New Zealand while the rest of the world burns are utter idiots.
The trend of billionaires investing millions of dollars in building apocalypse bunkers in New Zealand is a total waste of capital, and it demonstrates absolute divorce from reality.
For the sake of argument, let’s play this scenario out: let’s say, it gets real ugly, scarcity hits hard, there’s a drastic collapse of society, total supply chain destruction, food scarcity, the works.
Do they think their pilots won’t just shoot them once they land in Aukland? Their chefs and staff won’t cannibalize them the first chance they get? Or the locals won’t shoot wealthy Americans for sport?
That’s the major difference between the American wealthy and the European wealthy - the former are not invested in the health of their nation (they don’t see it as anything more than an ATM). Do they even have contact with the real world? They don’t have to wait in traffic and endure a crumbing infrastructure, they can fly over it in a private helicopter. They don’t need to deal with the hassle of the healthcare system, because they have private medical staff / concierge.
Elon Musk was against the development of public transportation system - like a subway - in LA, because you could end up riding it with a criminal, hence why he went for that overly expensive hyperloop tunnel system.
These people have no skin in the actual game, there’s no incentive for them to make America a healthy and safe society, because they have already built their apocalypse bunkers.
In contrast, think of the von Liechtenstein family - the royal family running Liechtenstein for 800 yrs now. The crown prince, Hans Adam III, drives his own car, uses public airlines (first class), walks the streets of the principality without security detail, and even opens the castle for citizens each year for celebrations, where he drinks beer from a plastic cup and hangs out with his citizens.
Why? Because he has spent his entire life making Liechtenstein a safe and prosperous society. He’s not afraid that his people would storm the Vaduz castle and hang him. On the contrary - years ago, they voted on a referendum to give him MORE powers, not less.
Many such examples.
The apocalypse bunkers are a waste of resources.
@GaryMarcus Said it a week ago right about the time I shorted a bunch of the stocks that got dumped the other night.
I'm in the prediction game too.
But I'm only in it for the cash.
