@chamath 2017 Vintage. 1.9x DPI, 24.3% net IRR. Strategy focused on software for healthcare providers and based in Austin and Kansas City, Missouri. Some non-coastal GPs consistently generate top quartile / decile performance yet remain overlooked.
Smh. Can't say I'm surprised that Amaju is focused exclusively on the economics of the deal for FIFA and its member associations, without full consideration of the tradeoffs in governance (control) in the short and long term.
As a U.S. investor, Josh Kushner is likely to mandate a board seat (or two) in exchange for his $4.2B (~₦5.6T) - who can blame him? Also, that investment will be underwritten to be paid back primarily through ads and licensing, which means selling more commercials during World Cup games.
And since commercials are typically run during a pause in gameplay, FIFA, under pressure from investors, is likely to invent reasons to pause matches frequently while selling it to fans as being in the best interest of the health and safety of the players.
So the year is 2030, and World Cup games now feature timeouts, 4 quarters, play calling, and a 4-hour total TV broadcast time.
Also, for-profit subsidiaries of a non-profit don't work!

@JensenHuang@nvidia This is all pretty simple. We should encourage open source models as long as they were not created from the distillation of closed source models in a way that violates their terms of service. AI output isn't IP but ToS violation is unlawful under U.S. law.
Warren Buffett didn’t give anything to the Gates Foundation this year, instead directing nearly $6 billion in shares of Berkshire Hathaway to four foundations related to his own family. https://t.co/juhA2sqNo9
Allegiance to any party over the foundational principles of popular sovereignty, individual rights, separation of powers etc., is like arguing over who gets to sleep in the biggest room in a burning house. It won't matter much if the house doesn't stand.
Everyone's focused on USMNT goal keeper Matt Freese's mistake on that 3rd goal. But feels like the last defender, Tim Ream, could have done a slightly better job at trying to stop the shot from going in.
@elonmusk Again, another classic case of you cherry picking historical data to suit a false narrative. Is this supposed to mean Black people are somehow naturally or genetically predisposed to violence? If so, then how far back in history are you willing to go to test your hypothesis?
Great analysis. Governments allocate capital inefficiently. But your case for private enterprise is built on a flawed premise - the cards were handed out to the 100 kids in the playground at RANDOM. The cards were not handed out at random. I repeat, the cards were NOT handed out at random. Fixing the U.S. fiscal crisis requires transparency into government spending and removing tax benefits that flow disproportionately to owners of capital.
@mcuban The dominant driver of U.S. healthcare costs is hospital care, not insurance companies or even prescription drugs. See my chart. There's a ton of hospital consolidation (basically M&A) which increases their leverage in negotiating for higher reimbursement from insurance companies. All of that trickles down to patients in the form of higher insurance premiums. It's the providers!!
it would be helpful to note what share of California’s wealth or earnings is controlled / received by its 1 percent (including loans secured by wealth / assets), AND THEN compare that number to their 33% share of tax dollars paid. It’s only disproportionate if the the former is lower than the latter.
Again, cherry picking historical evidence to validate a false narrative. I recommend The book Why Nations Fail. Its authors were awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Economics for studying prosperity across nations.
Yeah… half truth. People of all kinds (Europeans, Africans, Arabs) were enslaved for centuries because of war, crime, or debt. What made the transatlantic slave trade different is it invented a racial hierarchy to justify enslaving millions while preaching Christianity, liberty, and democracy. Racism was the solution to that contradiction, and it has outlived slavery.
@elonmusk Classic case of cherry picking a convenient starting point in history to substantiate a weak argument. But it’s Elon Musk. He built rockets, so surely he must also be a great student of history and every other subject matter known to man.
