@martianwyrdlord The vibes have shifted enough that they are more worried that highlighting a targeted attack against Muslims will lead to copycat attacks rather than yet another astroturfed "stand against racism" protest
@Hank_Krill@martianwyrdlord The Belfast rioters literally burned migrants out of their homes, the media got African nurses crying on camera, yet the denouncements were fairly short-lived. I think the establishment are genuinely afraid of the British public now.
@eigenrobot It's crazy how much preferences are shifting. Even the media highlighting African nurses crying about getting burned out of their homes in the Belfast riots only resulted in one astroturfed protest before it became clear public solidarity wasn't with the migrants. Wild stuff.
@Lfromthenorth The type of man who follows a woman home and rapes her in her own apartment is extremely dangerous and unlikely to rehabilitate. He should be in prison for life, not for the length of maternity leave ๐
@PositivFuturist It could be that they've seen basically no sympathy for the victims and instead have received nothing but accusations of hypocrisy and preferential treatment of Muslims. It's hard to pull off a "grenfell" when the majority population are increasingly unsympathetic towards Muslims
@qhxj28ny94@ArthurMacwaters Women, especially mothers, do not find pedophiles sympathetic. If only mothers could vote on whether or not to reintroduce the death penalty for child rapists and murderers, the "reinstate" camp would win by a landslide.
@Me_only_me76@sappholives83 People are allowed to be scared and want action taken to reduce the chances that this happens again. They are also allowed to be angry that such an unpredictable and dangerous man was brought to a place with lots of young children and wasn't being properly supervised.
@Me_only_me76@sappholives83 I don't believe for a second that this man never showed any violent tendencies. Serious risk assessment failure is more likely. The man who threw a 6 year old off the balcony at the Tate had a long list of violent attacks and yet they still let him out completely unsupervised.
@ManchesterHunk@Con_Tomlinson Britain's birth rate fell below replacement long before there were any illegals, let alone public funds paid to them. The problem is more cultural than economic. How many men Connor's age (27) are trying to become fathers, even if they are married and earn a good salary?
@BananaInYourPie@Con_Tomlinson Britain's birth rate first fell below replacement over 50 years ago. Through good economic times and bad, people have been choosing smaller families and now increasingly no family. It has little to do with housing and labour market distortions.
@sweetchongus@Con_Tomlinson Yes but no immigration won't lead to more white Brits having babies. They've been below replacement for over 50 years and now have an ultra low birth rate. It would be much easier to make the case for no immigration if white Brits were having enough kids to even stand still.
@LaterAgitator@SociologenHD The election of Trump on a mandate of mass deportations proves that even the US cannot absorb an infinite number of immigrants. Every country has a limit, European countries have a lower limit than the US but the US is no exception.
@TheHauskarl@commontruth_ People were willing to give Andy Burnham a chance to "save the labour party". That doesn't mean their perception of reality is distorted and that they will vote labour no matter what they do to the country. Andy himself said this is labour's last chance to redeem itself.
@eliotranch@aswren Even if you try to keep the focus off religion, you won't be able to avoid targeting certain ethnic communities. Trying to avoid discomfort and find the right framing is not going to allow the state to crack down on the grooming gangs the way America did on the mafia.
