@gamertagVR Uff, I just had a look at current headset prices, ยฃ550 for a Quest 3 is a bit steep isnt it! It's enthusiast hardware I guess, and it's not like it's 2018 any more!
@Marky_X_ Let those making 1-100 million pay for steam, and give the two extremes discounts, afaik there's no reason not to and plenty of reasons to do it. It's just lame as it is, and won't change valve's profits. What happens at the lowest end is negligable to valve, but huge to indie.
@Marky_X_ There's no real reason not to give small businesses a break, it is the difference between being able to work as a team and having to be solo, given that steam + tax = 50% at min.
Even apple drop to half fees until you're making a million.
@BeanJuiceStudio Self taught, though, was expected to just pick it up if I like it. I started with art and design and worked my way through from pixel art to early 3d to modern high end 3d while along the way moving toward dev myself with tech art --> tools --> programming.
@bohemiainteract A platformer that never shipped, it's the best I've played in nearly 40 years. My bro developed it, I worked on art and level design - a few times, as we made it maybe 3 or 4 times across the last decade and a half or whatever. We'll do it again at some point, and finish!
@Grrbyy Sucks. A nicer system would be taxing the middle band who earn millions to hundreds of millions the most. big studios wont come without discount, but let the little guy have low/no fees while starting up. truth is it makes teams hard to do, results in solo dev scope games.
@Grrbyy All i know is everyone else gives little developers a break.
For small biz, Apple cut fees in half, Epic eliminate them.
Steam charges little devs the most, but some have a mindset of steam is steam, so you'll get what you're given, gaben must not be criticised.
@ManWithNoMercy@sicktaiz You sound really authorative but you're talking nonsense. Many devs instead choose to focus on the iOS market, It's actually a bigger than Steam's, and Apple offer 15% (half) fees until you make a million.
@ManWithNoMercy@sicktaiz after tax, a developer gets 50%, so 100k instantly becomes 50k. Giving small businesses a break means its more possible to make a small team to make games. simple as that. Otherwise it's pretty expensive, so deal with less substantial games, I guess.
