Things are getting catastrophic with Russia's deadly plague outbreak.
There's now evidence that the plague could have originated in China.
A laboratory technician broke a tube containing LIVE bacteria and later died.
Russian authorities could not confirm that she died from plague.
The Russian watchdog then announced that she could have died from pneumonia of unknown etiology.
Because testing found no microorganisms linked to her work.
Her trip to Thailand was initially suspected to be the reason.
But that theory was later ruled out as well.
Now a report has emerged that a Chinese emergency plague drill on cross border infectious diseases was held in Fuyuan, Heilongjiang.
Specialists from Russia's Far East region attended the event.
The director of the plague institute where the laboratory technician became infected also attended.
The drill took place exactly two weeks before the laboratory technician died.
A sample or piece of equipment from the Chinese drill containing viable plague bacteria could have somehow reached the victim.
Several samples are also suspected of having been transferred as part of China-Russia plague cooperation.
The Baikalsk administration is now telling citizens to avoid traveling to Shelekhov and nearby cities completely.
The US State Department and CDC are closely monitoring the situation.
Foreign governments are also watching developments closely.
The European Commission is in contact with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
Uzbekistan has just tightened border health checks.
Around 2150 workers in Shelekhov have been ordered to wear masks.
Masks and gloves are being distributed to kindergarten staff and fuel station workers in Shelekhov.
More than 150 people have been hospitalized.
Russian authorities have quarantined 24 people.
Hundreds more are under strict observation.
Mandatory temperature checks have also been announced for flights from Irkutsk to Moscow.
This plague is far deadlier than COVID.
The majority of infected people die within 18 hours.
This could be heading somewhere disastrous.

@DocPriyamMD Even though it sounds like a nightmare scenario, standard antibiotics actually work if you catch it fast enough
The trick is that doctors can't afford to wait around for lab tests to confirm it; they have to start treating right away on suspicion alone because every hour matters
Fever or breathing symptoms after a known exposure? Wear a mask, avoid close contact and seek urgent care. Tell the team about the exposure.
Close contacts may need preventive antibiotics even before symptoms.
How deadly is it?
Untreated pneumonic plague has a fatality rate close to 100%.
Early antibiotics can save lives. Treatment should begin as soon as doctors suspect it, without waiting for lab confirmation.
Hours matter.
Pneumonic plague is a severe lung infection caused by Yersinia pestis, the bacterium behind the Black Death.
It can spread through respiratory droplets during close contact with an infected person or animal.
It can start with fever, chills, headache and weakness.
Then pneumonia develops rapidly:
• Cough, sometimes with blood
• Chest pain
• Shortness of breath
Symptoms can start just a day after exposure. Breathing can worsen rapidly.
COVID-19 changed the world. Now a suspected pneumonic plague case in Russia has put nearly 200 contacts under observation. Untreated, it can kill within 24 hours of symptoms.
