Facing an all-but-certain "blue wave" election this fall, Republican leaders in North Carolina are scrambling to insulate their policy preferences in the state constitution.
Their proposals include eliminating local control over property taxes in favor of a state takeover, capping personal income taxes, and expanding partisan gerrymandering to the State Board of Education.
Our recommendation: North Carolina voters should reject all of the proposed state constitutional amendments.
I am standing in full solidarity with the thousands of NC teachers marching for fair pay and proper school funding.
Some facts:
- NC is 50th in public school funding
- NC is 46th in teacher pay
- Wake County faces $16M in cuts this year
Today, our educators are putting everything on the line to ensure every student gets the resources they deserve.
With the nation's attention once again on partisan gerrymandering, it's a good day to point out once again that the Democrats in North Carolina have won outright majorities of votes cast for both chambers of our state legislature in multiple recent elections, including just in 2024.
Yet because of Republican partisan gerrymandering, the voters' preferences have been completely nullified each time.
Strange how there's been no conservative outrage about this, isn't it?
If you’re mad about Virginia, support a national gerrymandering ban.
If you’re not willing to take map-drawing away from politicians in every state, you’re not mad about gerrymandering. You’re mad your side lost this round.
Absolutely none of these unserious and unprincipled people have ever had a problem with North Carolina Republicans' egregious partisan gerrymandering in our state.
They're not against map-rigging - they're just shocked and appalled when it's Democrats doing it.
North Carolina has so much going for it. Our economy is thriving. Our population is growing. Our reputation is first-rate. We cannot risk losing our momentum by putting irresponsible fiscal decisions on autopilot. The time is now to invest in our people.
Wait a minute! You guys told us last June that you had "obliterated" Iran's nuclear weapons program. They rebuilt it in 8 months? And now we are going to have to bomb Iran every year? Forever?
Western Carolina University students just turned early voting into a 1.53-mile protest. After the on-campus polling site was closed, they marched a busy four-lane highway to cast ballots — saying if access gets harder, their resolve gets stronger. #ncpol

Among many other details of this analysis: The agent who fired the shot was shooting video until he switched from camera to gun.
He stepped in front of the vehicle, but seemed to have stepped past it by the time he reached for the weapon.

Great reporting as always from @dankanenando
Developers promised to build a road, saving taxpayers money, to win approval for new homes. Then they hired a state budget writer’s friend, paid $449,000 to GOP legislators, and the legislature had taxpayers fund the $15M after all
Empirically, this is not true. Not all mothers have prenatal care. Some get infected between testing in the first trimester and delivery. In some cases, the test is overlooked. If a child is infected at birth, they have a 95% chance of becoming chronically infected UNLESS, they get one dose of hepatitis B vaccine. If they do, they have less than a 5% chance of being chronically infected.
This Saturday, MLB will host the Reds vs Braves game @ Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, TN.
It will break MLB attendance records, and the media will use its success to argue that it proves MLB expansion belongs in Nashville,TN.
There's only one problem...Raleigh is closer.
