"When someone asked him how people would spend their time after the revolution, when capitalist wastefulness had been done away with, Marcuse answered, 'We will tear down the big cities and build new ones. That will keep us busy for a while.'"

@souljagoyteller ...meaning a left-of-centre broad front can still feasibly win elections (even if it barely missed out in March), a feat which has proven increasingly impossible everywhere on earth
seems Mexico is the only remaining electoral democracy w a left-of-center legislative majority :|
@souljagoyteller Dialectically
...Slovenia is a land of peasants
...relative to Visegrád, Yugoslav states experienced a more limited liberalization process
...Slovenia is more or less the most equal country on earth by income distribution
These people did not leave for political reasons and some of them are Trump-voting Republicans. The reality is that everywhere in this country has atrocious quality-of-life and a growing segment of the population does not like living here.
Anecdotally in past 6mo:
Neighbors across the street just picked up and left to Panama. Next-door neighbor moved to Ireland and gave up US citizenship. Cousin moved to Germany. Many friends from college now living permanently abroad. My whole family is eager to flee
Underrated element of American decline how many Americans are leaving the US. In Portugal there must now be about 150,000 American refugees, many illegaly (on tourist visas) and all telling me they are “escaping” the US
@RuthSocial69 Killing innocent civilians at a music festival is reprehensible
I disagree that Nova attendees are innocent. The occupation & full blockade of Gaza have never been victimless crimes. No decent human would celebrate (taunt) at the gates of earth’s largest-ever concentration camp
Houses deteriorate over time. Yet what is universally rejected as blasphemous for cars ($ appreciation) is universally deemed appropriate for houses.
In retrospect the introduction of a generational element to class was inevitable following the rise of financial capitalism.
