The girls going on Live to share stories of their encounters with the same man is actually a very good use of tech. Our grandmothers used to find out at the guyโs funeral.
My unpopular opinion; your full-time job should be enough to sustain a decent quality of life without requiring a side hustle. A side hustle should be a choice, not a necessity.
Oh but insisting on read receipts & last seen IS about monitoring & constant access. You are insisting that you know when a person held their personal device & last opened the app. I think we have become too accustomed to immediate responses & knowing too much about people.
Turning off your read receipts and hiding your last seen feels like a red flag to me.
It's not about monitoring anyone or demanding constant access. It's just that being left completely in the dark can make things feel less transparent than they should.
Maybe it's a privacy preference, maybe it's nothing at all, but I can't help seeing it as a sign that something isn't quite open.
Is it right or am I overreacting?
The urgency of text messaging is so jarring to me these days. My favorite friends/acquaintances now are those that send long paragraphs/voice notes crafted like letters. They give me the permission to gather my thoughts and respond when Iโm ready.
