🟣Senator @JamesonTimba is not just a politician. He’s a community leader who commands the respect of many in civic society, business, education and beyond. He is many things and a criminal is not one of them. He’s behind bars for allowing young people to use his home for barbecue. His incarceration is a shameless weaponization of the legal system by those who wish to silence him. He and the scores jailed with him are innocent. Free them now.
We need new leaders.🇿🇼
The woman being carried on the back is in jail after being arrested at the home of opposition leader Jameson Timba with 78 others, where they were celebrating June 16 Youth Day with a braai.
The sad news is that her baby has died. The woman was beaten so badly by Zimbabwean police that she broke her legs on the day of arrest last week.
They are back in court today at 11 a.m. for a bail ruling.
This situation highlights the very real consequences of political repression, corrupt rule, and police brutality.
Arresting and beating someone for attending a celebration, and in the process causing such devastating harm, is not just wrong, it is downright cruel.
My sincere condolences go out to the woman and her family. 🙏
