Do you know that Kaunda asked Simon Kapwepwe to resign as Vice President in 1971 because of his tribalism?
Kaunda built UNIP under the One Zambia One Nation motto, but when Kapwepwe became VP, he wanted to sideline other tribes mainly the Tonga’s. Tonga’s protested and had Kaunda fire him in 1971, four years after he was appointed VP.
Tonga’s considered Kapwepwe ungrateful to them especially that it was Harry Nkumbula who recruited Kapwepwe into the Africa National Congress (ANC) when Nkumbula formed the first ever indigenous political party in 1948. However, in 1958, Kaunda, Kapwepwe, Sikota Wina, and others resigned from ANC and formed UNIP because Nkumbula decided to participate in elections on the terms dictated by the colonial government.
Kaunda appointed Kapwepwe as Minister of Home Affairs after the 1964 declaration of independence and later Minister of Foreign Affairs. While he was VP (1967-1971) his tribalism led him to secretly form the United Progressive Party (UPP) on the Copperbelt which he envisioned to be more pro-Bemba unlike UNIP which had allowed other tribes to participate in the governance of the country. He was fired by Kaunda in 1971.
Kaunda banned the tribal UPP and arrested most of its members. In 1972, Kaunda instituted the Chona Commission led by Mainza Chona (a Tonga) to make recommendations for the constitution of a ‘one-party state.’ After months of public hearings, the commission's report was submitted to Kaunda in October 1972. The one-party state was inaugurated on 1st January 1973.
The one-party state came about because of Kapwepwe’s tribalism. He resigned from politics in 1973 and went to live at his farm in Chinsali. He died on 26th January 1980.
This is important.
The EU Election Observation Mission has now put the transparency issue very plainly: “disaggregated data at polling station level should be made publicly available.”
And there is a reason this matters.
The EU observed counting at 38 polling stations. It found that counting was transparent, but procedures were only partially implemented. In more than a third of its observations, unused ballots were not counted before ballot boxes were opened. Staff had difficulty completing result forms in 11 polling stations. Most importantly for the accounting question, in 10 polling stations the number of ballots found in the ballot box did not correspond with the number of ballots issued.
None of that proves manipulation. It does, however, make the response to an accounting question obvious: publish the data and reconcile the numbers.
The EU also specifically found that ECZ’s website was not always up to date, complete or presented in usable formats, and said publication of precise electoral data would have enhanced transparency.
As of today, ECZ’s own 2026 presidential results portal still shows 0 of 226 constituencies reporting, despite describing the portal as containing results “verified and published by ECZ.”
So this is no longer a debate about personalities, narratives or competing behavioural theories.
Publish the results. Publish the disaggregated data. Then let us reconcile the arithmetic against the official record.
That is not an accusation. It is basic electoral transparency.

@ke_le_brimbor@luchi7 The point is BM8 and HH both pulled crowds and they deliberately brought artists to pull crowds. So crowds work. We are arguing over the effective of large crowds.

Rice has always lacked that core part of the profile of a good DM. You can give Rodri the ball and trust that he can find his way out of a press. With Rice, he just helps recycle and drive.
It’s why Odegaard comes back to help with buildup at Arsenal.
The UPND government won the 2021 election largely because of a struggling economy and widespread dissatisfaction with basic service delivery.
Today, one of its biggest challenges is communicating the economic recovery in a way that resonates with ordinary citizens.
Agricultural Revolution under OPP government will involve establishing government owned regional banks per province to finance & promote the scaling of commercial agriculture of all strategic commodities.

Our position is to increase Citizen’s participation & ownership of mines.
We will also establish a Minerals Revenue Authority (MRA) to ensure transparency & accountability in our mining & finally collect all taxes for the country.

About $1.5B health agreement with USA that may tie access to our minerals to it. Such agreements must be tabled in parliament, openly debated & voted on. Citizens must be part of such decisions about their future. Power belongs to them. OPP govt will put citizens at the center.
Happy new month & closer to August! Zambia is not poor, doesn’t lack talent. We just need to agree that like any structure, it must be built with the right foundation, with the right materials, by people who know & are accountable to the people they serve. That’s what I bring.
All we ask is that you give us a chance & listen to our message, then judge us as official campaigns begin. We assure you a better governed Zambia with right priorities (industrialization, ending youth unemployment, lowering cost of living). Stay tuned!
GRZ can deliver development projects in any constituency based purely on national plans developed and agreed on by technocrats in different Ministries.
It’s never about the Member of Parliament.
