Summer is a challenging season for wildlife, and the Tamil Nadu Forest Department has undertaken extensive measures to ensure that animals have access to water across forest habitats. The Department maintains one of the countryโs largest water networks for wildlife which includes 373 borewells, 8,421 check dams, 2,734 percolation ponds, 541 water troughs, 270 waterholes, 115 open wells, 164 abd overhead tanks supplemented by natural water sources within forest landscapes. To further augment water availability this year, the Department has created additional water conservation structures, including 15 new check dams and 21 water troughs. Forest divisions have been proactively replenishing water bodies, pre-filling vulnerable water sources and supplying water through tankers wherever required to ensure uninterrupted availability during the dry months. Monitoring is being carried out through MSTrIPES, geo-tagged photographs, camera traps and real-time digital reporting systems #TNForest
# Blast! @Ags_production@archanakalpathi@aishkalpathi A father is a girlโs first super hero ! When a father shows respect and listens to their girl and equips her ; she grows up to be self confident and fearless . We need more such messages to be seen, heard and practiced.
Children need to have the tools to face life ; not have all their problems fixed for them ! #Blast did that and more! Kudos to @Ags_production@archanakalpathi@aishkalpathi what a movie ! See it if you have not still and thank me later !
```No Runways.
Yet...perfect take off.```
It's a sheer Natural Wonder !!!
Methane plumes detected by satellite imagery over Chennai's landfill sites are a serious environmental and health concern. Methane, a potent greenhouse gas released from poorly managed waste accelerates global warming and contributes to ground-level ozone formation.
This can trigger asthma, respiratory illnesses, reduced lung function, and cardiovascular problems, particularly among children, the elderly, and nearby residents. Methane buildup at landfill sites also increases the risk of fires and explosions. Reducing methane emissions through better waste management is essential to protect public health, improve air quality, and combat climate change.
Ever wondered how streams continue to flow, rivers keep receiving water, and wildlife survives even through the harshest summer months in landscapes where forests and wild animals depend on a steady supply of water ! The answer often lies in "Natureโs Sponge' the montane grasslands. Most people judge a landscape by the number of trees it has. But nature does not work that way. A forest is not healthier than a grassland simply because it has more trees. Every ecosystem has its own unique role. The montane grasslands of the Western Ghats are among natureโs greatest water engineers. Often called the 'Water Towers' of the landscape, these ancient grasslands capture mist, absorb rainfall like a sponge, and store vast quantities of water beneath the ground. They then release it slowly through the year, feeding streams, rivers and springs long after the monsoon has passed. This hidden natural reservoir sustains forests, supports unique wildlife like Nilgiri Tahr, replenishes groundwater and becomes a lifeline for people, agriculture and entire ecosystems during the dry season. The lesson is therefore simple, it is not about planting trees everywhere. It is about protecting every unique ecosystem #WorldEnvironmentDay 5th June 2025 #grasslands #climateaction #NowForClimate video @supriyasahuias
Every marine biologist learns the physics problem whale mothers face:
How do you transfer liquid nutrients to your baby in an environment where liquids should instantly dissolve and disperse?
Whale milk contains 30-50% fat content. Human milk is 4%.
The evolutionary solution was to create something closer to toothpaste than liquid. When a whale calf latches underwater, the mother's mammary muscles contract like a hydraulic pump, shooting this dense mixture directly into the calf's mouth in concentrated bursts.
The milk forms temporary globules that resist mixing because of the extreme fat density. Surface tension creates a protective barrier around each droplet. The calf swallows before the ocean has time to break down the molecular structure.
But the real genius is the timing.
Whale mothers release milk in coordinated pulses with their calf's breathing rhythm. The transfer happens in the brief moments when both animals are positioned to create a sealed pocket between them. The mother essentially turns her body into a biological delivery system that operates in perfect sync with oceanic pressure and movement.
Millions of years of evolution solving a fluid dynamics problem that human engineers would need computer modeling to figure out.
