Plenty of awful things happening worldwide. One that hasn't gotten much attention is the brutal repression of women and girls in Afghanistan, including the denial of education. This holds back not just girls but the entire country.
Introducing Artemis III.
Four astronauts. Three launches. Two dockings. One splashdown.
In 2027, the Artemis III mission will practice docking the Orion spacecraft with two lunar landers in low Earth orbit — the capability we need to return humanity to the Moon’s surface.
A timelapse view from our @SpaceX Dragon of the spectacular southern aurora seen in yesterday’s post, a result of a recent solar event. As opposed to the previous aurora I’ve seen, this one danced and snaked its way directly below us, putting on quite a show. I am in awe of this ethereal and emotionally evocative phenomenon.
Gianna’s father was taken from her six years ago today. George Floyd’s life mattered not only to those who loved him, but to all of us who still believe in the dignity of every human being.
As we remember him, let us also remember what remains before us. Mourning must move us toward moral courage. Grief must move us toward justice. And love must move us to create a world where no child has to carry this kind of loss because of violence and dehumanization.
Please continue to lift up Gianna and all who love and miss him.

This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. We should be able to find common ground in opposing rape. Here's a gift link to the article: https://t.co/aMMHId49OO
Not going to boost this account but this is a terrible way to approach life. This attitude is the reason kids are growing up never hearing of Robin Hood or King Arthur. They have been deprived of their inheritance. Resist the tyranny of the present moment.
WHAT HAVE WE JUST WITNESSED? 🤯
Sabastian Sawe has just become the first person in history to run a sub two-hour marathon in race conditions.
Yomif Kejelcha was also under two hours for second!
THEY SENT FOUR HUMAN BEINGS 252,756 MILES AWAY, WENT FULLY AROUND THE MOON AND BROUGHT THEM BACK TO LAND IN THE PRECISE LOCATION THEY WANTED
EVERYONE WHO WORKED ON THIS IS THE COOLEST PERSON ON EARTH
A new milestone for humankind: The crew of Artemis II are now the farthest any human has ever travelled, reaching a maximum distance of 252,752 miles from Earth.
This surpasses the previous record set by Apollo 13 in 1970 by about 4,102 miles.
Sweet dreams, @NASAArtemis II crew.
One last look at the Moon before flight day six and your epic lunar flyby, taking you farther into space than humans have EVER traveled.
Lock in, we’re Moonbound.
Artemis II astronauts are more than halfway to their destination, and preparations for lunar flyby are underway. During their trip around the far side of the Moon, they will capture imagery to share with scientists (and you, too!).
That's us! 🌍
The Artemis II crew captured beautiful, high-resolution images of our home planet during their journey to the Moon. As @Astro_Christina put it: "You guys look great."
“I’m the space plumber, I’m proud to call myself the space plumber.”
Mission specialists like @Astro_Christina train for all roles so they can jump in wherever they’re needed. Sometimes that means fixing vital machinery, like the spacecraft toilet.
I hate how pervasive this attitude has become. “Why teach languages in schools? Why bother teaching fiction / myth / poetry?” Because school is about exposure to new things; because education without the humanities is worthless; because if the schools don’t teach them, who will?
There is a danger in becoming used to violence.
When images of war, suffering, and loss no longer move us, we risk losing our sense of shared humanity. What should trouble us begins to feel normal.
We cannot afford to become numb.
Nonviolence calls us to remain aware, to remain compassionate, and to remain committed to protecting life, even when the world feels overwhelmed by conflict.
