The only reason the Sanhedrin(Sadducees/pharisees/corrupt Jewish council) didn't kill Jesus themselves is because they existed under Roman rule and didn't have the authority to put people to death. If the Romans wouldn't have been there one could argue they would have stoned Him to death a lot earlier in His ministry. Funny how the Romans ended up largely converting to Christianity before their fall and the nation of Rome stayed but Israel fell and didn't become nation again until 1948. Seems like the Romans were given some kind of redemption or salvation for their part in the crucifiction. Guy that pierced Jesus with the spear in His ribs converted because the water that came out healed his failing vision. When Israel excepts their Messiah they chose to have crucified they will be redeemed. It is prophesied to happen
