@GillianKeegan 9.6million pupils on 2010/11
10.7 million pupils in 2022/23
Means each new teacher would have 42 pupils per class
Teacher recruitment targets missed every year in recent years
Tell the truth not the spin
@Katy_primary97 Good luck Katy, sad to see you go. @GillianKeegan , another young teacher leaving. When are you going to do what's required to stem the tide and fix recruitment and retention?
These shocking stats are the result of a Govt that has failed to properly invest in education for the past 14 years. Cuts to staffing are harming children's education. #InvestInEducation
@tes@educationgovuk That won't sort out retention, people very quickly learn the truth after starting. Conning people into joining isn't profesional either.
@GillianKeegan Probably because they don't see the point when they have a day filled with cover teachers due to no staff. Fix teacher shortages and you will fix this too.
@tes Almost certainly headteachers will now just ask staff "to assess the situation" to clear the school of responsibility for duty of care and then it will be on the teacher if they intervene.
@tes@NEUnion After over 20 years as a successful science teacher I've sadly come to the conclusion that Education is going to have to totally collapse before the public care enough to force politicians to act. Enough, I'll be switching to full time private tutoring. More Β£, less work.
@tes@Samfr@matilda__martin And they haven't experience in classroom management. Children in Africa sit quietly and do their work allowing the teacher to teach. There's a huge culture shock when they come to teach in the UK. Could this be contributing to the increased poor behaviour documented recently?
