Will you see the Northern Lights Sunday night? Not likely but it is possible! The below image is the Kp index. Basically the higher that number the better our chances are of seeing the the Northern Lights. Friday night’s number was at an extraordinary 9 and we witnessed a generational aurora display. Last night’s Kp index was 7 and I don’t know of anyone who saw them. Tonight’s forecast is is close to a 7 but don’t be discouraged. These forecasts are far from perfect and the aurora could over perform. While I know the chances right now are very low to see anything, I’m still going out after 9pm. If I don’t, there’s a 100% I’ll see nothing! I’ll be hoping it over performs.
FYI 3z-6z on the 13th is 10pm - 2am tonight.
Few things.
Where to look? North from a dark area.
When to look? According to this forecast 9pm - 2am but frankly, they come in waves so anytime at night. Just go out several times.
Best way to see them? Very low chance you’ll see them with the naked eye so grab a camera or iPhone and use a long exposure. Long exposures allow more light in than your eyes so your more like to see some color.
Good luck! #scwx #ncwx
@jflow41@finalfourcast @TheDaSeanButler Those were the days. We used to sleep outside the Coliseum the night before to get good seats in the student section.
