According to Swedish folklore recorded in Benjamin Thorpe's 1852 book 'Northern Mythology,' Trolls celebrate Christmas Eve with plenty of music, dancing and drinking. It was said to be dangerous for Christians to be about while these festivities were going on. #FairyTaleTuesday
"Good King Wenceslas" is tells a story about a 10th century Bohemeian duke and saint, Wenceslaus I, who along with his page, braves the snowfall and darkness of St. Stephen's Day to give alms to poor in zeal. Ironically the original melody is for Easter. #FairytaleTuesday
Thank you for the winter friendliness that's snowing down, all around the world

The Yule Cat prowls, let loose from Gryla'a cottage in Iceland. The massive cat stalks the night, looking for those without new clothes to wear: so be proud of your new new sweater and socks, safe in the knowledge the Cat prowls not for thee. #FairyTaleTuesday

In one of the Chinese folk tales, a mystical white mule serves as the snow spirit, its fallen hair conjuring vast blankets of snow. #fairytaleTuesday
Overseen by the immortal Hong Ya, the mule was kept sealed within a gourd. Yet one fateful day, after a drunken meeting with the Real Person of the Purple Palace, Hong Ya failed to secure the gourd, allowing the mule to escape into distant lands. There, its shedding hair brought forth a breathtaking, heavy snowfall.

"One day, in the dead of winter, he went into the forest to chop wood and his wife came along to help him. The cold was intense and they were nearly frozen.
"We have no child," said the woodcutter to his wife. "Shall we make a little snow girl to amuse us?"
They began to roll snowballs together, and in a short while they had made a "snegurochka," a snow maiden, so beautiful that no pen could describe her. The old man and the old woman gazed at her and grew even sadder."
The Snow Maiden is based on a Russian folk tale called Snegurochka (Sneg meaning snow). It tells the tale of an old couple living in a forest longing for a child. They make a snow maiden sculpture, and then Father Frost magically brings her to life...
