Yes! I have been thinking so much lately about teachers gatekeeping opportunities or lowering expectations of reading (and writing) under the claim of wanting students to love it.
This-> “they can still learn to love reading - if their teachers love the readers that they ARE”
I've been thinking about what teachers mean when they say, "I want kids to love reading," or "I want kids to 'be readers.'"
Because they mean a very specific, culturally-constructed type of love that looks a certain way. It looks like a mirror of these teachers. (1/9)
Is it controversial to say that I think over half of all teacher instructional time should be scripted?
Scripted direct instruction would reduce teacher workload and improve student outcomes (in most schools).

If your professional identity as a teacher is built on being "relatable," then you've really misunderstood the mission. You're not a camp counselor and you're not their friend.
Kids don't need an overgrown best friend (they don't like you that much anyway, trust me), they need adults who demand excellence and, more importantly, model it.
Sort of unbelievable that a school can let their kindergarten teachers decide how “academic” they want to be based on some personal philosophy or preference and then reshuffle the students in the next grade, forcing G1 teachers and every teacher thereafter to pick up the pieces.

Walz: A paper said, 'this guy might be the poorest guy to run for V.' I'm not poor but I lived on a teacher's salary. Thank god I was in a union. I didn't expect to get rich but I didn't take an oath of poverty and I sure as hell don't want someone like Trump crapping on my job
Jesus Christ. Listen, if your drop your kid off a boy and he comes back a girl, take that child back to school because you took home the wrong child. Enough of this bullshit! Teachers can’t even give your kid an Advil without parental consent.
