Starting with the next release of indexd, new installs will no longer form contracts with hosts before v2.9.0.
So update now to not miss out on potential revenue.
Being able to work on an open, permission-less storage network is amazing. But damn. Sometimes you just want to be able to call a host and tell them they got an issue they could fix in 5 minutes rather than ghosting them.
hostd v2.11.0 dramatically reduces RAM, CPU, and Disk IO. Warning this version has a long database migration, so prepare for some downtime.

Hosts on a fast link can leave a lot of revenue on the table without tweaking sysctl. Latency kills throughput and a renter overseas may only get a tiny fraction of your serverβs theoretical max.
https://t.co/E09rzaxHKV can get you started but always benchmark.
If you haven't tried it yet now is a great time to get started. Mount Sia storage with rclone, back data up with Duplicati, extend your Nextcloud storage or do whatever else you can with S3 storage.
If your favorite tool doesn't work with it we'll fix it.
s3d v0.1.4 makes it easier to serve downloads from S3-compatible storage: you can now expose buckets for public reads with bucket policies & support time-limited access with presigned URLs. It also improves client compatibility for bucket & root probes.

Also breaks webtransport with any backend that sets WT_MAX_SESSIONS > 1 without the remaining WT_INITIAL_MAX_* settings. Because breaking things is a lot more sensible than assuming a sane default. Same seems to be true in latest MacOS.
iOS 27 breaks DNS based adblockers such as @NextDNS, @AdGuard or Pi-hole unless you disable connectivity assist. Spread the word!

We spent a long time rebuilding the whole stack, but finally nailed down the UX/DX.
@mitsuhiko@dylan522p Exactly that. Re-checking luggage and customs can take anywhere from 5 minutes to hours and I'd rather not risk missing my connecting flight. Although I could have sworn they actually checked my luggage through once or twice. Maybe that's just specific airports.
If you are a Sia host and you raise your storage price, raise MaxCollateral too. If you don't, every contract at the previous cap will fail to renew and you lose a customer.
For the ones who are familiar with Sia and wonder if that includes the typical 3x redundancy, it doesn't. It actually pushed 30GB at 6.68 Gbps over the interface.
The best part? None of that traffic hit our infrastructure. It goes straight to our permissionless network of hosts.
People often associate decentralized storage with being slow and clunky to use. Meanwhile I just uploaded a 10GB file at 2.23 Gbps testing our latest changes to the Sia Storage SDK in Go. I call that pretty sweet.
