@JTweetsTennis I think it’s easy to consider this set up from a business structure, but the problem is that really focuses on each school investing in prize fighters. By the same token, let’s just have gymnasts go 1:1. We need the energy gymnastics brings.
@JTweetsTennis I had these questions recently. My informant indicated it’s typical for some of the better players to get $80-100k or more per year. That’s atop scholarship and benefits. No shot at top 100, but years in challengers funded and a dream. Top teams often equal top $$$.
@JTweetsTennis Because it’s built in a swamp! It’s like someone keeps trying to sell us on it being what it isn’t. You could have NCAAs many places… and these goobs have made some deal to keep them in a boring, ill-fated swamp.
@LaurenBelisle Glad you had a great time in Athens! It’s a special place. Not expecting the same feeling for the next decade in Orlando. Will the courts buckle like they did in the past? Will the cameras fail again? Will they still have garbage viewing if moved indoors? This or that.
@Brooks_UGA@T_Stines A decade in Orlando is ridiculous. They have struggled to manage this tournament every time. There are always going to be “reasons” why Athens doesn’t make sense, but then I would use those reasons against Omaha and OKC. Athens is special. Always will be.
@_dcagle@JTweetsTennis It’s too bad it’s not coming back for another decade at least. A total tragedy that @NCAATennis has landed in Orlando for TEN years. If Arkansas can bring back their tennis programs, surely you can bring the NCAAs back to Athens where they damn well belong!!!
@AlGruskin But Alex… the courts in Lake Nona have been awful. Literally the courts. Beyond the fact that video from there has been awful, that indoor courts are not convenient for video, and that there is zero character to that place, they literally have failed to do it well once!
@JohnIsner A Mecca was built. The people came far and wide. It was beloved and magical. They opted out of magic and placed it in a parking lot in Florida. I’ve been to this tournament everywhere. The curse of the indoor courts really impacted things. Athens is the best choice.
@AlGruskin I hope people are finally seeing what makes THIS special and Orlando a dumpster fire. I’m so extremely disappointed that THIS will be set aside for another decade. This is college tennis. Georgia homer? Fine. The USTA center has failed over and over. Or THIS!!!!! Cmon!
@UGAtennis I was really hoping we might make it to Athens and see what magic could happen there this year. It will be a very long time before that magic returns. Hoping it’s a great run for the women’s team.
@KebTennis But… Georgia… in a national championship… at home in Athens. It will be nearly impossible for them to lose at home. Keep in mind that they dominated Auburn at home in the regular season and not with a packed crowd.
@kmkeirns Clearly you have an ax to grind. At best, her participation in a recruiting conversation is vague. If you’re only viewing the picture you posted, her response supports Georgia and not a direct statement about recruiting anyone. *hard eye roll*
