Millennium Delight: Ushio Noa & Hayase Yuuka Developer Notes

• In the prototype phase back in 2018, Noa used to carry a railgun as a sign of Millennium's technological supremacy over other academies.

• When Aris's concept and design came into the scene, the development team had to change Noa's weapon of choice to a handgun style to fit her role as the seminar secretary.

• Noa's gun was a massive point of debate, for many of the Blue Archive team were military enthusiasts, so the question was: "Is it a handgun or a submachine gun?" In the end, they had to classify it as a handgun for the official label of the weapon in-game (though the team was still debating even after the decision was made).

• Noa's weapon design was in collaboration with Tokyo Marui, a Japanese company famous for manufacturing model hobby cars and pioneering the design of battery-powered airsoft guns, with an emphasis on Noa's professional image being on standby even under pressure.

• The rain and the reflections in Noa's memorial lobby were demanding to create. In 9ml's words: "We had to challenge ourselves with the concept of using Noa's reflection while she spoke with Sensei," with many trials and errors involved in the rain scenery and other aspects such as mirror reflections.

Hayase Yuuka

• As the tutorial character, the development team focused on giving Yuuka the essence of what Blue Archive is.

• The tracksuit version of Yuuka was implemented after overwhelming positive fan reception.

• Tracksuit Yuuka memorial lobby was meticulously made, with the art team creating a bundle of sketches for it.

• 2D Animation Lead Artist Kim Hae-jong was in awe of how the illustration team captured Yuuka's tracksuit expressions and character motion so vividly.

• The development team poured a lot of attention into something they all cherished in the tracksuit memorial lobby: the indirect kiss.

• They wanted to utilise Yuuka's kindness while also showing her embarrassment after realising she's offering Sensei her bottle of water.

Trivia and fan theories.

• During the closed beta test, Yuuka's height was set at 167 cm, which is 11 cm taller than her current height.

• The structure of Yuuka's SD model thighs also underwent optimisation.

• The "100 kg Yuuka" meme is used within the development team.

• As characters, both Yuuka and Noa are made to complement each other in traits and personality while keeping in mind a balance in how they present themselves and how their mindsets work.

• Art Director Kim Kukki (known by his pen name 9ml) stated that all Millennium characters' uniforms were based on Yuuka and Noa to keep their theme consistent with the Millennium aesthetic.

• Both Yuuka and Noa's pyjamas were designed with the theme of being cosy and laid-back compared to their usual selves, and the team wanted Yuuka to express more cute reactions than in her previous versions.

• Fans speculate that Noa had a far more important role in the story based on her name and her early prototype weapon of choice.
