🇨🇦What Canadians Should Know About #Meta#UnblockCanadianNews
2006: Facebook launches its News Feed, training Canadian users to get their news on Facebook
2012: Facebook allows advertisers to share Sponsored Stories in its News Feed
10 years later…Facebook is making billions in advertising revenue (2022: $116.B) mostly from content it does not create....
2022: 77% of Canadians use Facebook (Statista)
2022: Facebook renames News Feed to Feed
2023: (Summer) Approx 50% of Canadians get their news from social media (-The Conversation)
2023: (Summer) Canada has worst wildfire season on record
2023: (Summer) Meta (Facebook parent company) starts blocking news in response to the Online News Act (which is unlikely to take effect until 2024).
2023: (Summer) Google is also subject to the Online News Act (but Google is not yet blocking news)
August 2023: Meta should now unblock news so Canadians in #Yellowknife and #Kelowna, which are evacuating due to devastating #wildfires, have trusted access to local breaking and emergency news (again, there will be no government repercussions to this unblock, just the potential to save some lives and reduce some stress since it's hard to break a decade of Canadians' online news habits when they are facing fire on their doorsteps)
Now tell me this, is there any other business in the country that would ever consider keeping a lifesaving product or service AWAY from Canadians who are in need, based on a law that doesn't stop them from providing this product or service for months?
Meanwhile, Mark Zuckerberg has updated his Threads account SEVEN TIMES with details about his fist fight with Elon Musk.
So, when I say that we are lacking humane tech leaders, this is what I mean.
Today, Saturday, August 19, Mark Zuckerberg can #UnblockCanadianNews with no repercussions whatsoever (except maybe a bruised ego?), ultimately ensuring Canadian citizens have access to news that they’ve been trained for a decade to get on his platform (a platform that makes him one of the Top 10 richest men in the world).
@CarlEri74114970@CryptoNomad15 @MythicalLisa @JoshuaPHilll ..... When did I say US invented slavery?
There are anti trust and anti monopoly legislation but company's stomp on those as well. Problem still exists. Without better regulation the end game of capitalism is just monopolies.
@CarlEri74114970@CryptoNomad15 @MythicalLisa @JoshuaPHilll .... Yes if course it is. But there is no larger system of slavery than in capitalism throughout history. Unregulated capitalism leads eventually to monopolies which crushes customer and workers rights. Best systems we have are regulated capitalism with strong social nets
@CryptoNomad15 @MythicalLisa @CarlEri74114970 @JoshuaPHilll .... Slavery was and is a huge piece of capitalism. The problem is unregulated capitalism, capitalism with proper social nets and regulations to ensure a strong middle class us probably the best solution we have vs current oligarchy style capitalism.
@DanielWAnthro@Surrey_Albion @TheSkeptic4122 A hypothesis is literally an educated guess. There are a lot of data points that infer a certain viewpoint but it can always change no faith required, we teach topics like this by referencing this is the best ideas of current science. This again not true with supernatural
@DanielWAnthro@Surrey_Albion @TheSkeptic4122 ... The difference is it's from multiple sources backing up a methodology of ways to actually test the outcomes. I should be able to replicate any science. You cannot with supernatural claims. There is no repeatable evidence of any supernatural
@DanielWAnthro@Surrey_Albion @TheSkeptic4122 How does the ability to accept new evidence and change accordingly require faith?
Human testimony is known to be extremely faulty, physical evidence and repeatable tests are also always preferred in literally every case. For supernatural, I would require more than 'trust me'
@DanielWAnthro@Surrey_Albion @TheSkeptic4122 There are very few absolutes. Science is changing so requires no faith. If you find new results, the knowledge improves nothing is beyond further evidence.
I have yet to find any evidence or proof of any super natural entities. What have you seen that is evidence? Please share
@DanielWAnthro@Surrey_Albion @TheSkeptic4122 Just because something cannot be disproven does not give it likelihood of being true. There are no absolutes, but 99.999999999999999999% is pretty good. There has never been evidence of a supernatural entity. Likelihood then is none exists.
Also, Which science is in faith?
@DanielWAnthro@Haemish857 @TheSkeptic4122 Again saying something doesn't exist because there has been zero evidence is pretty fine. Like I think we can agree there is no rainbow unicorns in your house. The people claiming supernatural things need to prove the existence, not those who with no evidence deny existence
@itsginnydi Also the rebranding has me. Clicking the X icon feels weird.
Where would you focus your attention? Would gladly follow you on other platforms
@ClaireMax People suck. Complaining about freedom and blah and when people actually do what they want to make them feel good... They Complain.
You do you girl. Results insane! I wish I had 1/20 the willpower to keep that sort of hard work up!!!
@vdub12@TheGod_Particle@DPGBehler@SethDillon This is the best circle jerk I've seen all day!
Please look up reasoning and philosophy classes to get some decent arguments. I mean they all fail but this one is just embarrassing
@theopolis37 @Maximumatheist What are atheists without theists? Happy to have one less thing to fight against in politics and laws. Also just because we all die doesn't mean we are nothing.... Weird take
