#OnThisDay 1982 HMS CONQUEROR torpedoed and sank the Argentine heavy cruiser General Belgrano (ex USS Phoenix) off Burdwood Bank with the loss of 323 hands, ending the Argentine Fleet's involvement in the war. This was the first torpedo attack by an SSN. #Remember
Indulge yourself & spend 6 minutes listening to this wonderful man talk about DDay. Its incredibly powerful and yet still spiced with that unique Bootneck humour, his love for ‘the lads around him’ & a plea to never wish DDay again on anyone. What a wonderful gentle human. RIP

We will never be this cool. 100 years old. WW2 Burma veteran. Knighted by HM the Queen. Commissioned officer. Honorary Colonel. Raised £39 million for the NHS. Front cover of GQ, in a dinner jacket, medals, draped in Union flag. Legend!
So sad to see such a great supported football club like Newcastle dragged through the media and treated with disrespect in the name of money. I think the patience of the fans is surely going to give way and gates could suffer when we get back to normal! @NUFC@newcastleherald
On this day in 1982 the guns fell silent in the Falklands after a brief but bitter conflict to liberate the islands. At 9.30pm, Royal Marines raised the Falklands flag outside Government House.
Victory in the Falklands cost Britain the lives of 252 men
