Wearing my red for ed today to show my support and commitment for a strong, properly, and well funded public education system in Ontario @osstf#OSSTF#FEESO#RedforEd
Today marks an historic new chapter in OSSTF/FEESO’s 106-year story as @marthahradowy begins her two-year term as President 👏🏽🙌🏽
A proud former developmental service worker, Martha is the first education worker to lead our Federation. She’s already made history, and she steps into this critical role at a pivotal moment for public education in Ontario.
“There’s been a stark difference from when I first started, 20 years ago, to where we are at today. When I first started, there was one-on-one support work with a child with developmental disabilities, and now that one-on-one support is virtually non existent ... We had access to social workers and psychologists and a full occupational therapist who would come in and provide the necessary supports for students. And that’s not where we’re at today.”
Martha has made her priorities clear: defending members, and fighting to get back the resources that staff need and students deserve in schools and universities across Ontario.
"Everything we’re going to be doing over the course of the next 18 months, from talking to our members, hearing what’s important to them, and preparing for the next round of bargaining" is to ensure that students and staff have the supports and services they need.
Because, as she says,
“It takes a village to serve students — from the custodian, to the secretary, educational assistant, social worker. Everybody plays a vital role.”

After taking over four school boards, Ontario's Education Minister hinted that a broader consolidation of the education system is coming.
Minister Calandra suggested Queen's Park is looking for more control and consistency.

@Brenda_Duk@ColinDMello In addition to this... Those in snow squall regions of Ontario... Is there a plan in place should snow squalls be problematic as it is February and roads have been closed in those areas... It is February and snow squalls can still occur...
➡️Govt massively underfunds public education.
➡️School board runs deficit so province forces cuts.
➡️Hardly anything left to cut, so board cuts 40 positions supporting kids with disabilities.
➡️Ford's got $100B for a tunnel but nothing for these kids?

That the USA prefers a racist, criminal, supporter of terrorism, misogynist to an accomplished black woman tells you everything you need to know about America.
Canada: wake up - or we're next!
Wow. Andrew Dowie, MPP in Windsor saying the quiet part out loud.
Psst, Andrew, in case you missed the lesson on ethics, this is not the right thing to do & yes it does matter.
The Minister of Education needs to take responsibility for the broken school transportation formula and fix it, instead of insisting that it's working when it clearly isn't.

This 7-Eleven, fully stocked with beer and coolers, sits directly across the street from an elementary school.
Unlike cannabis stores which have to be 150 m away from schools or daycare, the Ford government place no restriction on where alcohol could be sold.

At 1 min after midnight the bosses at @CNRailway & @CPKCrail locked out the very workers that make rail services in Canada work!
They would rather shut down service than ensure workers have decent working condos & wages. Shame!
I stand with the Teamsters Rail Workers!

In case you haven’t heard, it’s the summer of Summer 🥇
Summer McIntosh wins her fourth Olympic medal, a GOLD in the 200m IM, and matches Penny Oleksiak’s record for most medals won in a single summer Games by a Canadian 🇨🇦

“By the time you find a family doctor - you’re dead.” Just unacceptable. This govt needs to take a hard look at the accessibility of health care in this province. It’s anything but convenient. #ONPoli https://t.co/9GohXUnMmE
From day 1 these workers showed up with a plan for convenience that wouldn’t jeopardize our public services, & what did @fordnation say? Hell no.
When you wake up to a picket line in your community, remember: #LCBO workers are fighting for the future of Ontario. Come join us!
LCBO workers are taking their fight against Ford’s greed to the next level if they strike TONIGHT ⏱️
Profits from alcohol sales fund health care, education, and infrastructure. A win for workers is a win for ALL of us.
Tell Ford they have YOUR support: https://t.co/XEvmxngoNW
I support LCBO workers!
➡️ 70% of LCBO workers are casual & insecure. Let's reverse this trend here & everywhere. #SupportLCBOWorkers
➡️ Ontario needs the $2.5 billion in annual LCBO revenue to fund public healthcare, education and transit. #KeepLCBOPublic@OPSEU
ICYMI: Ontario gave parents more than $1B in cash over 2 years. Here's where the money went...
Spoiler alert: It DID NOT go into schools to improve student learning conditions in #OntEd classrooms!
