.@Ubisoft This is simply unacceptable. 16 characters maximum passwords? There is no good technical reason to do this and much rather points at huge security flaws. Please up it to 1000 characters

Make passwords extremely long, as long as you possibly can.
Use a password manager and store a unique password per page/service.
Never reuse a password.
And if a service cuts the password entry short, complain and demand the limit be raised to 1000!

I really had enough of services that limit the number of characters in a password to something tiny. Sure you might not want to allow 1 gigabyte long passwords, so a 1000 characters limit seems reasonable. But anything below that is purely covering up a horrible security hole 😱

Stored in a database the 1000 and the 50 character password are about the same amount of data saved. You could make it a million times longer and it would still require the same space. So that's no excuse.
But if they save it in a way that allows someone to read it, cleartext...

@backblaze How is this a thing in 2021? What possible reason could you have to limit the password to 50 characters? It's not sent that often, just allow 1000 and nobody will ever mention it again.

@dbu Yes, might work for other devices and charging but not ESP flashing. Higher quality cables and shorter ones usually work better for me

@dbu Yeah, they can be incredibly picky. I have two cable marked that I know work well for this purpose alone. Though these days I mostly use ESP32's
