Amazing restoration of nature in Rwanda 🇷🇼.

It’s hard to believe, but as late as twenty years ago Gishwati Makura National Park was deforested. The forest had been converted into grassland.

Now the Rwandan organization Forest of Hope is setting the area back to its old splendor.

The results are immediate and visible. Chimpanzees have tripled. Birds, snakes and rodents are coming back. The incredible beauty of the green hills of Rwanda meets the eye.

Key to the success, as everywhere else, is engaging with the local people. When they see the benefits of conservation, they become the first line defenders of the park. The park is a tourist attraction and income is shared. Agroforestry and tree planting create many jobs. Fruit trees bring better nutrition to local farmers diet.

I am happy to suppport this wonderful work as a board member of Vumbuzi Impact Africa Foundation. Warm thanks for exciting site visit.

Today, in Kigeyo Sector, @RutsiroDistrict under the @terrafund project, We teamed up with community representatives, leaders, and partners to initiate the @restorelocal campaign, that will plant 29,800 trees in the @Gishwati_Mukura region by December 2024. #restorebiodiveristy.
