@PictonChris@AlboMP@abcadelaide We dont need more medical school graduates. We need more training positions in all specialties so that these med school graduates can qualify enough to work independently in the community. Increasing med school places will only worsen the bottleneck situation.
We don't need to debate whether it's better to be a generalist or a specialist. The world needs both.
Specialists excel at zooming in. They see the details to deepen our knowledge.
Generalists excel at zooming out. They see around corners to broaden our view.
A worrying trend, but not unsurprising given the decades of devaluation of primary care. 200 GP practices closed down in the last year alone. GP shortage is becoming dire, especially in rural/regional settings. What’s the future like for primary care? 😢

These clinics cost the taxpayers $150 per patient, the current medicare benefit is $41, so the federal government is subsidising the gap. This makes it the HIGHEST GP fee gap in the country. Fix proper GP funding.
Still feeling salty about missing out on Tay Tay’s concerts. 😔😔 Her eras were my eras too. All the way from those early college days belting our heartbreak anthem Teardrops On My Guitar at kbox. Unrequited love, then and now. 💔

As a GP, I am used to the barrage of comments in social and mainstream media telling me my profession isn’t cheap enough. So I thought I’d calculate what does get funding. Your rebate could cover the whole cost of care if we invested in GPs. See how. https://t.co/Nhb2OHU51V
@RayeCharles Also that $180 includes a 30-40% service fee that goes to the clinic, the doctor only gets 60% of it. For 10+ years of medical school and training + 20k yearly in indemnity fees, registration and college fees. Plumbers don’t have those overheads and charge similar if not more.
@RayeCharles Not the GP or clinic’s fault. It’s the government who’s not funding medicare properly so patients have to pay a gap. Besides her appointment would not have costed her 180, it sounds like a long appointment (20+ mins) whereby she would get 80 back from medicare as rebate.
Tasmania deserves a Government that is focused on the right priorities for our state.
Health, housing, secure jobs and cost of living have been neglected by the Liberal government over the past 10 years.
Their own members have quit because of it.

I'm not in Tasmania, but my DMs are open #auspol#BudgetReply#GPsCare#MedTwitter
Today we learnt of a surgeon who thought of anaesthetists as surgeons’ dogs and only a tier above GPs on the totem pole. Great to know how “highly” some colleagues think of us 😒
