Very useful 🇪🇺EU27 Heads of Missions meeting with the Head of the Government of 🇸🇲San Marino, Secretary of State for Foreign and Political Affairs Luca Beccari, at #VillaEuropa🇪🇺 in Rome. We exchanged views on the state of play of the EU’s Association Agreement with San Marino and Andorra and heard a very inspiring presentation of this agreement by @ClaraMartinezAl. Following more than 10 years of negotiations and taking into account the special relations between the EU and our very close neighbour San Marino, we gave strong support to the Cypriot Council Presidency @CY2026EU and to the European Commission’s chief negotiator @MarosSefcovic to now move swiftly to the signature and provisional application of the Association Agreement.

The Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU @CY2026EU is taking place against a backdrop of significant instability. As tensions rise in the Middle East and in our neighbourhood, Europe and the Mediterranean are facing new challenges in the areas of energy and security.

To explore these dynamics and reflect on the role of the Cypriot Presidency in shaping European priorities, @CyprusinItaly and the Institute of International Affairs have organised a debate today featuring @lapopistelli (Director of Public Affairs,@eni), @CeciPiccioni (Director-General for Political and Security Affairs, @ItalyMFA), @KarolinaMuti (Senior Research Fellow, IAI) and @fedcastiglioni
(Researcher, IAI).

The event, opened by our President, Michele Valensise, and closed by the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus, @ChristofidesY, saw significant participation from Rome’s diplomatic community.

La presidenza cipriota del Consiglio dell’UE si svolge in un contesto caratterizzato da una notevole instabilità. Con l’acuirsi delle tensioni in Medio Oriente e nei paesi vicini, l’Europa e il Mediterraneo si trovano ad affrontare nuove sfide nei settori dell’energia e della sicurezza.

Per approfondire queste dinamiche e riflettere sul ruolo della Presidenza cipriota nel definire le priorità europee, l’Ambasciata di Cipro e l’Istituto di Affari Internazionali hanno organizzato oggi un dibattito con la partecipazione di Lapo Pistelli (Direttore Affari Pubblici, Eni), Cécilia Piccioni (Direttrice Generale per gli Affari Politici e di Sicurezza, Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale), Karolina Muti (Senior Research Fellow, IAI) e Federico Castiglioni (Ricercatore, IAI).

L’evento, aperto dal nostro Presidente, Michele Valensise, e chiuso dall’Ambasciatore della Repubblica di Cipro, Yiorgos Christofides, ha visto una nutrita partecipazione da parte della comunità diplomatica di Roma.

Un'iniziativa del Comune di Morphou in collaborazione con l'Ambasciata di Cipro in Italia, che ha risvegliato ricordi e coscienze. Un sentito ringraziamento al sindaco di Morphou, il sig. @VHadjiavraam, ai membri del Consiglio comunale e a tutti coloro che hanno partecipato per onorare la lotta per la giustizia e il ritorno.

Μια πρωτοβουλία του Δήμου Μόρφου με τη συνεργασία της Πρεσβείας της Κύπρου στην Ιταλία, που ξύπνησε μνήμες, αλλά και συνειδήσεις. Ευχαριστούμε θερμά τον Δήμαρχο Μόρφου κ.
