Congratulations to Liverpool academy graduate Kieran Morrison who will earn his first senior national cap as he starts for Northern Ireland against Guinea.
He wears the number 9 shirt.
Liverpool want to be an aggressive, front-foot team led by someone who is all in, whose identity is intensity, who will immerse himself in the club through to the academy, and whose hard-working character will endear him to the city. That’s Andoni Iraola.
Yes, there are risks. There usually always are bar very rare circumstances. Jürgen Klopp thought he was a risk because he had never worked outside of Germany.
Looking at win percentages as a mark of appointing a new head coach/manager is nonsense. Klopp would have never been approached by Bayern Munich or joined Borussia Dortmund in that case.
Luis Enrique would have never gone from Celta to Barcelona.
It’s about what they’ve achieved relative to means, scaling that, plus their stylistic fit to the club and its ambitions.
"I'm just one of the people who stands on the Kop. They think the same as I do, and I think the same as they do.
It's a kind of marriage of people who like each other."
Bill Shankly's response to fan mail at home in Liverpool, October 1975.

Compared to the has-beens, former players and assistants European rivals are hiring we’re getting someone with an identity who players run through walls for. 🇪🇸
Since 2015-16, Liverpool have competed in 10 European campaigns.
They have either won it or been knocked out by the team that won it in 7 of those 10. #LFC
Best for all parties
Real shame it’s ended up in this situation
Worth remembering lots of good people at the club (Slot included) highly qualified acted in good faith. Fine to be critical but should never be personal
HUGE summer for FSG, Edwards & Hughes in so many ways
Head coach?
Sporting Director for this year and beyond?
Transfers?
Contracts?
Enjoyed watching Iraola at Bournemouth but have 3 doubts at Liverpool
1. He achieved results because players could train hard all week. How will he do that with CL?
2. If I recall he had a lot of injuries at Bournemouth.
3. How does he deal with teams defending deep?
Delivered something no one thought was possible and I'll always be grateful for that but he was never turning the current situation round so for me its the right call.
I'm sure he won't be short of offers and I wish him all the best
Liverpool FC can confirm Arne Slot is to depart his role as head coach with immediate effect and that the process to appoint a successor is under way.
He leaves with a Premier League title to his name and our deepest gratitude and appreciation.
Removing myself as a fan of the club and looking at the club in isolation, what is happening at Liverpool right now would be interesting as an in depth psychoanalytic and sporting case study for football as a whole.
We are witnessing the awkward marriage of data and emotion. Is it possible for a club like Liverpool, an institution physicalised by emotion, arguably more than most clubs to make base all decisions with a quantitive backdrop. It is simply naive to suggest that the majority of transfers don’t, or shouldn’t work in this way - an integral tool. But when results do not go the way of the stats, it only further outlines the disconnect between fans and structure.
This approach can exist at Liverpool, but the fans, coach and set-up need to move autonomously as one. There needs to be a level of connection.
