The first water body inaugurated under Project Him Sarovar at Spituk Farka, is a pioneering step towards making nearly 2000 acres of barren land, cultivable again.

This pond, measuring 60m × 40m × 2m, constructed in a record time of just 60 days at 11,500 ft altitude, is designed to store approx. 60 lakh litres of glacier meltwater.

By harnessing seasonal flows, it will recharge groundwater, rejuvenate barren lands, and pave the way for agriculture activities after ages, ensuring long‑term water security, ecological restoration, and prosperity for the local community in Ladakh’s cold desert.

Delighted to share that Ladakh has witnessed a historic surge in tourist arrivals this year, reflecting the success of our sustained efforts to position Ladakh as a premier tourism destination.

May 2026 emerged as a landmark month, registering an unprecedented 121.20% growth with 72,834 arrivals against 32,927 tourists in May 2025.

Between January-May 2026, Ladakh welcomed 1,17,546 tourists compared to 81,827, during the same period last year, marking a remarkable 43.65% year-on-year growth.

Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri @narendramodi ji’s appeal to promote domestic tourism, coupled with our efforts of strengthening infrastructure, improving connectivity and diversifying tourism experience, have contributed to this surge, that brings renewed optimism and confidence among tourism stakeholders.

I sincerely thank all tourists visiting Ladakh, and invite people from all over the country to come and experience the confluence of nature, adventure, peace, culture, spirituality and clean air & serene atmosphere in Ladakh.

@SajjadKargili_ Excise policy only ensures sale of liquor in regulated manner, under strict govt control. What’s wrong if it’s brought in Ladakh too. It will prevent smuggling & sale of spurious liquor.
As for ur sentiments, liquor is still not sold in Kargil-Drass. So why this fuss?

Rightly observed. Wangchuk is biggest source of rumors and negativity in Ladakh. Country has seen how he put Ladakh to arson and violence to fulfil his agenda. He should be boycotted.
