Opinion | By killing schoolchildren en masse, we are giving Iranians the freedom and liberty that Americans have enjoyed in Littleton, Newtown, Parkland, and Uvalde.
I will never forget being left on read after sharing that Charlie was diagnosed with autism. The day we got his diagnosis, Justin and I cried together - alone. Not because we were ashamed of Charlie, but because of the shame and stigma that so many others still carry about autism
It seems obvious to me that we need differential diagnoses for levels of ASD instead of one spectrum because the people on both ends have opposing interests.
Of course the parents of profoundly autistic people want treatments, improvements, or a cure, and of course, people for whom autism is most essentially expressed as a difference in sociability and/or reasoning practice just want to be accepted as they are by society. But one wants disability rights and the other is actively fighting to prevent it from being treated as a disability.
