it's probably because cameras didn't have built-in screens, but so many old movies have these weird glares, reflection, and other artefacts obstructing the actor.

Cinema is an inferior artform. Movies are too easy to watch. The letterboxd crowd watches 500 movies a year and frame each one as a life changing artistic encounter, but 90% of it wont stick. Its a passive form of consumption.

Film isn't a mature enough art to deserve a fandom. The first 20-30 years of film are unwatchable and the last 20 years of film are unwatchable

You're only engaging with 40 years any decent output. Which means a dozen or so great films a decade.

Essentially, it's an art form that can be appreciated with just 2-3 years of your life and then you can move on.
