Threats to life did not overwhelm Ejiofor in fighting for Justice – Ozekhome

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Professor Mike Ozekhome, Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, who is the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Thursday commended Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, for not being overwhelmed in the cause of fighting for Justice.

In a move to check the influence of Ojukwu's government in the East, Gowon announced on the 5th of May 1967 the division of the three Nigerian regions into 12 states: North-Western State, North-Eastern state, Kano State, North-Central State, Benue-Plateau State, Kwara State, Western State, Lagos State, Mid-Western State, and, from Ojukwu's Eastern Region, a Rivers State, a South-Eastern State, and an East-Central State.

The non-Igbo South-Eastern and Rivers states which had the oil reserves and access to the sea, were carved out to isolate the Igbo areas as East-Central state.
One controversial aspect of this move was Gowon's annexing of Port Harcourt, a large city in the Niger Delta, in the South of Nigeria (the Ikwerres and Ijaws), sitting on some of Nigeria's largest reserves, into the new Rivers State, emasculating the migrant Igbo population of traders there.

The flight of many of them back to their villages in the "Igbo heartland" in Eastern Nigeria where they felt safer was alleged to be a contradiction for Gowon's "no victor, no vanquished" policy, when at the end of the war, the properties they left behind were claimed by the Rivers State indigenes.

This is a warning and advice to Ijaw people. We do know that there are some Ijaw conscientious people, some of whom supports Biafra self-determination. However, we are warning the Ijaw people who sees the Igbos as their problem that the era of being used as a willing tools to commit crimes and destitution in Igbo land has come to an end. The Ijaw nation have for no reason resented the Igbos even though we dịd nothing to them. IPOB will no longer tolerate their excesses of the Ijaw folks. IPOB is championing for Biafra referendum and if you are not interested, you can decline induction into the Biafra nation. But, IPOB will no longer tolerate the excesses of the Ijaws against Ndigbo. It is only the Ijaws who have voluntarily accepted to consolidated project of killing Ndigbo and i have not seen such betrayal being reciprocated by Ndigbo instead the Igbos have provided shelter and all sorts of brotherly support. In this 2025, IPOB will no longer tolerate the excesses of bigoted Ijaw boys against Ndigbo. No one has monopoly over violence.

ANOTHER CHRISTMAS GIFT, THIS TIME FROM AN ABIA STATE HIGH COURT.

An Abia State High Court sitting in Umuahia has today, the 19th day of December, 2024, discharged and acquitted 5 (five) Biafrans who were arrested on 20th July, 2022 and subsequently charged before the court in Charge No: HU/61C/2022.

These innocent Biafrans were arraigned on a three count charge of conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearm, and membership of an unlawful society. Trial in the charge commenced, and the prosecution called a total of three witnesses.

Today, the 19th December, 2024, the Court per Hon. Justice A.O. Chijioke, while ruling on our application, discharged and consequently acquitted these innocent Biafrans, of all counts of the charge.

We deeply appreciate the hardwork and dexterity of Dennison Agu, Esq., our Head of Chambers- Chinwe Umeche, Esq., and our other colleagues in Chambers, who worked assiduously to secure this latest victory.

We reiterate and reassure Biafrans, that we shall not rest on our oars in ensuring that all innocent Biafrans languishing in different detention facilities across the country, regain their freedom. We only urge you, as you've always been, to remain peaceful and law abiding in your legitimate and constitutional quest for self determination.
