@BergamotLoretto I totally agree! It's the same when in a scene someone's in a fight and gets tossed around. Landing on dirt and gravel... clothes always get shredded and the little pebbles will dig into the flesh. Yet the actors always look fine.

@lampstonwriter If I'm reading a new author's work, I'm looking for it to be around 100k. That it's much longer, like 200k, tells me the author isn't ready. I'll read a lengthy book if it's from an established author.

Some writers come to critique looking for a pat on the back, or wanting to argue over every little suggestion. They don't last long. I listen for what makes a person stop reading for a moment & try to figure out how to fix that.
