Next week, we’ll open up our web app to submitting scan data.
LiDAR and photogrammetry scans of <20MB work best.
City Champ players will be able to scan & submit public spaces to MeshMap and play their scans in VR immediately.
Updated our docs this morning in anticipation of our web app & first game @CityChampXYZ going to public pre-release next week.
Turned it into a thread in case people are curious about the basics of LiDAR scanning, photogrammetry, and Gaussian splatting🤳 and how it relates to @meshmapxyz 🌐

Night testing @CityChampXYZ at Roppongi Hills by the Maman spider sculpture.
@magicleap 2 is a beast. Outdoor AR is now possible at any time of day thanks to dynamic lighting & dimming features.
Here’s how I set up a new @CityChampXYZ game level at Tokyo Tower in ~1 minute at runtime using #OpenXR submeshing + @magicleap spatial anchors.
In v2, this will be done using prescans from @meshmapxyz.
Thanks to @Dilmerv for the idea to make a runtime logger

Play anywhere in augmented reality AND scan-to-play anywhere in virtual reality using @meshmapxyz
My friend’s younger sibling was visiting Tokyo so I let him play @CityChampXYZ wip on @MagicLeap 2.
Place-based AR games are awesome because you can play anywhere and it’s a different experience every time. Minimal level design - it’s all handled at runtime.

With @CityChampXYZ and @meshmapxyz we are betting that really great outdoor AR headsets are just around the corner.
Phone-based AR just isnt as compelling as having rich experiences overlayed onto your world.
