I'm excited to welcome guests from across the globe to Calgary, Alberta, as we kick off the World Petroleum Congress. Together, we're committed to meeting the world's energy demands while upholding the highest environmental standards.
This. ✊
We don’t need more privileged, successful people in leadership, we need people who can truly understand and represent the diversity of our communities.
We need people who show true and genuine emotions. We don’t need actors and talking points.
Break the stereotypes.
Most of the engagement sessions were held in Ontario, British Columbia, and Quebec... although the Western provinces of British Columbia, (especially true for) Alberta, and Saskatchewan have substantially higher youth populations in comparison to demographics in Eastern provinces
To all the pro-union people out there... please consider what I am saying below
When I worked at the railway over a decade ago, I was forced to pay union dues to a union (steel workers trash) that sided with the company 99.999% of the time.
I grossed over $7500/month in wages, but between taxes, dumb benefits I never used and dues, I took-home less than $5300/month
I was heavily taxed due to over-time hours, but my dues to a corrupt and useless Steel-Workers union came out to 6% of my paycheck $300 - $400 /month
I got pissed-off every time I went over my paystub. I was giving away good money to an entity that didn't give two shits about me at all.
When I brought up the idea of cancelling our "memberships" to the union, which would put good money back into our pockets... 70% of the guys there had a fit...
When I tried to show them the pile of "filed grievances" that were rejected over the past 5 years, those 70% of guys still couldn't fathom not being in a union
They were terrified of not having someone to fight for them, even though the union had rejected 99.999% of their claims. They still couldn't let go of the "idea" (read propaganda) that they would have no chance at keeping their jobs if they stopped paying dues...
Bottom line of the story is...
Unions exist for themselves. The workers who are strongly pro-union, are mostly brainwashed, garbage/lazy workers or completely braindead. Even though the union never did anything for them, they've been so heavily programmed to believe that if they didn't have a union or paid dues to a union, they'd be fired on the spot. That propaganda is the basis for why unions exist.
The guys I worked with would rather pay $350+/month to a union that completely ignored their issues, instead of having that money in their pockets...
I am sure all of you have your own views on unions, but if you pay into a union of some kind... ask yourself why you pay those dues, and what have you received in return that makes your life better off.
Do the math on your paid dues.
Put together the $ amount you've paid over the years, then factor in the "raises" your union has "won" over time...
If you union dues cost you more over time than your raises have put $ in your pocket...
Maybe it's time to stop paying for private jets, cottages and vacations for people like Gerry Dias and other union executives around the country, and put that money to work and help you in your own life instead
