Still cannot believe a harried junior doctor can be convicted of manslaughter for making mistakes (Hadiza Bawa-Garba) yet a cabinet minister can be found guilty by the High Court of breaking procurement law (Matt Hancock) & not be sacked, resign nor even apologise.
Meghan and Harry is the top headline on the BBC news at ten, followed by the Duke Of Edinburgh, the same day that it was revealed Matt Hancock acted unlawfully over Covid contracts.
This country is not well at all.
Govt should vaccinate all school staff (teachers, cleaners, etc). When children return, covid will once again start spreading - infecting staff and moving back into the community. At least, protect those who have to be on the front line.
@Nazmameah1 @chrisdysonHT I expect he will say that where levels of infections and deaths are lower they should fully open schools so that they can catch up with the higher mortality rates in worse affected areas.
@Teacherglitter Just take it a week or a day at a time. Keep your eye on the next cuppa or instalment of Netflix.... and as one of our children wrote in a letter to our local hospital, “I know it’s hard but when it’s all over you will look back and be so proud of yourself”.
Gavin Williamson tells MPs he threatened to sue Greenwich Council for closing schools early because “at that stage none of us were aware of the new variant.”
In fact the Health Secretary had already told MPs about the new variant before he sent out his legal threat.
I know closing schools is problematic.
But, simple point. If we want to we can compensate for educational gaps if we want to. These kids have their whole lives before them.
What we can't do is bring their grandparents, teachers, or in some cases parents, back to life.
A senior NHS consultant texts:
“Why not vaccinate all teachers in time for return to school on 18 jan? A box of Astra Zeneca vaccine to every school. It would only take days but what a great start to the year to know that all teachers were safe.”
We entered this pandemic with:
🔹 40k too few nurses
🔹 10k too few doctors
🔹 17k too few beds
🔹 A mere 4000 ICU beds
The political choice to defund the NHS since 2010 is being paid in human lives 😔
