Who are trained & highly skilled, this article presents music in dementia care in a reductionist way, it is not something simple to be reduced to a dose or delivered via algorithm. All at a time when arts education is under severe threat @Robert_Booth@guardian
Anyone else concerned about the tone of this article? I’m all for evidence-based approaches to care however people are not ‘Alzheimers patients’, they are people living with a condition who can exert agency & music is created by musicians... https://t.co/kumTrUgp7U
@alzheimerssoc@DespertarMusica It beautifully shows a lady enjoying being in the moment. About expression and ability not about frailty and the medical label. She is being herself freely expressing her #IDENTITY and ability of #CHOICE
@DrLindaDykes And here is mine a gift for finishing my undergrad degree! I am still using it fab sound and all still works. Provides background sound for working on my phd today 😊
@AV_Medic Listen to the person and respond if they raise the subject please don't ignore them and say the conversation can wait. People can be more aware than you think.
My daughter scraped another car when parking....she felt terrible, left a note on the windscreen assuming she wud get a bill but got this response..
“Sleep soundly in bed tonight, when you’ve inhabited this planet as long as I have a wee scratch on the car is lost in the noise”
@ZoeHarrisCCUK They are still not understood by many so the education and awareness is needed on both sides. Those that may need to respect them as well as those who wish to express their wishes through them.
Great to promote and yes mine is in place BUT i have had to put one into action just a few years ago and trouble is even the NHS are unsure of them leaving you still fighting for what that person wants. Tubes put in that should not have been.
"A hospital admission... is not the time to be thinking of PoA, yet this may be the exact time that it needs to be in place." @sandrashields talks sense in this blog post on why we should ALL have a Power of Attorney in place... https://t.co/fcBK4s4NMy via @wordpressdotcom
The information needs sharing otherwise when you have to use PoA if organisations don't understand it banks and nhs included it still is a fight to support the wishes of your loved one.

@smizz Happy Birthday! It is mine in 3 days too and having a few years on you i can confirm you're right nobody wants to do anything and are skint. Enjoy your day xx
"The NHS has revealed today that their dementia wards will be decorated in 1940s and 1950s style..." Am feeling ambivalent about this. Geoff may have known the 40s and 50s but I'm not sure he'd have liked to go back there even with advanced #dementia. Calming, or confusing?
@Annagoge@george_rook@alzheimerssoc While he makes good points of his own observation and is critical of lack of applied research he equally does not reference research evidence to qualify his points. Stirling have done a lot of design environment research
Basketball tournament at @Wellbeing_AUKS & Queen B won the trophy with 120 bounces in one go! 🏀🏆
Remind me once more how much people living with #dementia like sitting around doing nothing all day... 🧐 #LivingWellWithDementia
@ClaireTrelfa@janis_cottee Yes, you're right. Maybe with advanced planning, a suitable care home could be identified & transition can be made prior to a crisis/emergency situation occurring. Of course many don't/won't consider care home options until it is an emergency, then options become limited #AlzChat
