CLAR hosted “How Smart REALTORS® Use AI to Close More Deals and Stress Less,” presented by Rizzan Delos Santos in Belleville.
Attendees learned how AI can be integrated into everyday business practices to help streamline workloads, improve efficiency, and enhance client communication. It was a great turnout, and always nice to see Members come together in person to connect, learn, and share ideas.

CLAR President Christine Riley, President-Elect Kirby Eady, Past President Vicki Sweeney, and CEO Wendy Giroux attended the Port Hope & District Chamber of Commerce’s Fireside Chat with OPG, featuring Paul Séguin, Senior Vice President of Wesleyville OPG.
Attendees received updates on the Wesleyville project, including the Federal Impact Assessment process, community engagement opportunities, and the next steps required to obtain approvals and licences from the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
Paul also shared why Wesleyville was selected as the proposed site, citing its location on Lake Ontario, the size of the existing footprint, and proximity to transmission infrastructure.

Almost two months since Ontario’s HST rebate window opened, new home sales data for April is showing how the program's first month is impacting the GTA market.
A total of 1,100 new homes were sold in the GTA in April, according to data compiled by Altus Group for the Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD). That’s nearly triple what it was at the same time last year, when 384 new homes were sold.

CLAR CEO Wendy Giroux, CPAO Lisa Comerford, Regional Director for Peterborough Kristi Doyle, and Operations Manager Savanna Howell met with The Honourable Laurie Scott (@LaurieScottPC), MPP for Haliburton–Kawartha Lakes–Brock, to discuss ongoing housing affordability challenges and housing supply shortages affecting communities across our Region.
The conversation also included development charges, HST rebates, and other key factors influencing housing accessibility in communities throughout Ontario. We appreciate the opportunity to exchange ideas and continue advocating for solutions that support stronger communities and a healthier housing market.

The morning included updates from MP Lawrence on housing affordability and discussions on how municipalities and government can work together to ensure infrastructure is built to support growth and that Development Charges remain responsible. Additional topics included tariff incentives, rural economies, and nuclear energy, all of which resonated with Members in attendance.

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is hosting two upcoming virtual information sessions on the First-time Home Buyers' GST/HST rebate, on May 27 (English) and May 28 (French), 2026.
These sessions are designed for professionals and organizations that support prospective home buyers, as well as for builders and developers. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the rebate and be better equipped to share accurate information with clients and communities.

CLAR was proud to be a partner of the Durham Region Home Builders’ Association Land Planning & CBO Event, where CLAR representatives and Members heard from municipal representatives and industry experts from across Durham Region, including Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, and Clarington, on the planning and development shaping our growing communities.
CLAR’s Regional Director for Durham, Chris Vale, attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the first-ever Habitat for Humanity development in Whitby — a significant milestone for the community and local housing initiatives.
The project will bring 46 affordable homes to the area across two sites, featuring a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units designed to support local individuals and families. Once completed, the development will help provide safe, stable, and affordable housing opportunities for residents in need throughout the community.
