@PaulBrandITV Excellent news.

NEW: The Assisted Dying Bill is returning to Parliament this week.

Labour MP Lauren Edwards will reintroduce it on Wednesday after coming 2nd in the private members’ ballot.

“The process has been frustrated by a small minority”, she argues.

I’m deeply moved to have been appointed to House of Lords. The NHS has shaped my life, work, & values. it’s where I learned what care, compassion, & public service truly mean. I hope to carry that spirit forward in this new role, speaking up for patients & health professionals

[Clare Gerada @ClareGerada]

@DrGW0 @Mary_Tom11 @ItsnotrightUK @wesstreeting @DHSCgovuk @alisonleary1 Indeed it has.

[Clare Gerada @ClareGerada]

@Megsenmumdr Of course I know. I am
Not arguing it’s a bad thing. Just responding to a previous comment about why we are seeing a so called surplus of GPs. On paper we do. But we are still short of GPs as
We don’t have the resources to employ more. But blaming PA’s for this is unfair

[Clare Gerada @ClareGerada]

@Megsenmumdr @Mary_Tom11 @ItsnotrightUK @wesstreeting @DHSCgovuk Because the funding is going for hospitals. PC receives <9% for >80% activity. Until we rebalance this we continue to fight amongst ourselves and blame others. I have been arguing this for 25 years. We get more of the same.

[Clare Gerada @ClareGerada]

@Megsenmumdr @Mary_Tom11 @ItsnotrightUK @wesstreeting @DHSCgovuk Since 2018, the number of GP trainees from outside the UK/EEA increased by 3,568, compared to a rise of 1,674 UK‑trained trainees, a 519% increase versus 46%, respectively.

[Clare Gerada @ClareGerada]

@Megsenmumdr @Mary_Tom11 @ItsnotrightUK @wesstreeting @DHSCgovuk IMG representation in GP training rose from 34% in 2019 to 52% in 2023, the highest among all specialties. From 2018 to 2023, IMGs filled 46% of GP training roles by the end of the period.

[Clare Gerada @ClareGerada]

@donalmurray2002 @ItsnotrightUK It’s picking on one group to the exclusion of others. There are more pharmacists working in GP (and right so) than PA’s.

[Clare Gerada @ClareGerada]

@Jean_Jeannie1 @Mary_Tom11 @ItsnotrightUK @wesstreeting @DHSCgovuk We don’t have enough GPs/ generalists in hospitals / community physicians.

[Clare Gerada @ClareGerada]

@DrJoFranklin @Gt77745Rahul @ItsnotrightUK Of course as with all other practices and hospitals we use skill mix. Why ever not. Have been doing so
Since I started in GP 49 years ago

[Clare Gerada @ClareGerada]

@Mary_Tom11 @ItsnotrightUK @wesstreeting @DHSCgovuk And how many doctors on GMC register ?

[Clare Gerada @ClareGerada]

@Mary_Tom11 @ItsnotrightUK @wesstreeting @DHSCgovuk Doctor unemployment is due to increased recruitment drive for overseas trained doctors coupled with increased supply from expansion of medical school places. Poor workforce planning. How many PA’s do you think there are in UK workforce ‘taking doctor jobs?’

[Clare Gerada @ClareGerada]

@davidedgarwolf ‘why are doctors so unhappy ?’ I can tell you in 3000 words

[Clare Gerada @ClareGerada]

@drmattuk I got an E in physics!

[Clare Gerada @ClareGerada]

@davidedgarwolf can you follow me
So I can DM you. Thanks.

[Clare Gerada @ClareGerada]

@LarcombePeter @DrSharandeep @drmattuk @ExplosiveEnema2 @Anisocyte So now using AI is also a no-go area? Sad it’s come to this.

[Clare Gerada @ClareGerada]

The BMA opposed the NHS at its founding. Now, with more strikes planned, it risks hastening its collapse. Every delay and cancelled op strengthens those who argue the NHS no longer works. We must fight for the NHS — not just for ourselves.
