Today our staff participated in firearms training and qualification conducted by South Dakota Law Enforcement Training. Also participating today were officers from the Vermillion Police Department and agents from the South Dakota Department of Revenue.
Deputy Victor Allen graduated today from the South Dakota Law Enforcement Training Academy. This graduating class attended in Sioux Falls, hosted by the Sioux Falls Police Department. We’re proud to welcome Deputy Allen back from training and have him back to work.

The second traffic safety checkpoint of the evening had 97 vehicles come through. 15 drivers were check for impairment-- 2 duis, 1 zero tolerance dui, additional citations of 1 open container, and 1 fail to obey.
Units completed a traffic safety checkpoint on the west side of Vermillion. Of 81 cars coming through, 8 drivers were checked and only one arrest for DWI was made. That’s one too many drunk drivers on the road but 80 were doing it right. The drunk driver went to jail. Stay safe.
D-Days check point east of Vermillion together with the Highway Patrol. 30 cars contacted. 2 dui arrests. 1 zero tolerance dui arrest. One of the duis also resulted in 2 underage citations and 1 open container ticket. Be smart, be safe, designate a driver.
