Aaron Tucker had been out of prison for seven days. He had less than $2 in his pocket and one shot at turning his life around, a job interview that morning. Then he saw a car flip over and catch fire from his bus window.
He asked the bus driver if he was going to help. "No, but if you get out I'm going to leave," the driver replied. Tucker got out anyway.
He sprinted toward the upside-down, smoke-filled car and found the 61-year-old driver covered in blood.
He unbuckled the man's seatbelt and dragged him clear as the car started to catch fire.
He pulled off his own dress shirt and used it to stop the man's head wound from bleeding, telling him: "You're going to be all right. Your family wants to see you. Keep your eyes open."
The bus left. Tucker missed his interview.
When the story got out, strangers set up a GoFundMe that raised over $50,000 in three days. He also received multiple job offers in construction.
"I feel like a job can come and go, but a life is a one-time thing," Tucker said. "The job just wasn't in my mind at that time."
@RynnyRyn As long as it was primarily subsidizing people who were actually already involved in Rivals 2, then I think it's totally legit. The exceptions in this case must have been very vocal. They better show up because FGC discourse will be cooked if only 300 R2 players actually play
@RynnyRyn Then, now that we have the entrant numbers, every game went down for obvious reasons (increased airfair, overlap with FIFA, Saudi concerns) but Rivals 2 suddenly has its biggest tournament ever and main stage? It's shrewd marketing, but not necessarily organic engagement.
@RynnyRyn Correct me if I've got the wrong info. But Ludwig, the publisher, gave out 3-day passes to players from online tournaments and rivals locals (totally legit). Then he had quite a few left over and gave them out via a Google survey to anyone who agreed to register for Rivals 2.
Someone's opinion on SF6 lives & dies by what they feel about the Drive system. It's the most divisive thing about the game. Due to the core mechanics not really shaking up in the 3 years it's been out if you didn't fuck with Drive Rush? You had very little reason to come back.
