Happy to share our new paper in @Oikos_Journal! We studied the establishment of cordgrass and seagrass transplants in Zeeland. Both species are called 'ecosystem engineers', and form the basis of rich and valuable coastal ecosystems.

We learned how establishment thresholds posed by env. conditions affect species differently, and may be linked to species morphology and plant-environment interactions. Understanding plant-environement feedback and species-specific establishment is important for restoration 🌱🌱

We laten zien dat 1) afstand tussen scheuten van een plant een potentieel flexibele eigenschap is en 2) planten veiligheid en groei balanceren. De details verschillen per soort (biestarwegras vs helmgras) en of je op het strand groeit of in een modderige natte zandplaat.

Next up: #globalwarming´s influence on these fluxes to contribute to @MERIT.
