@JamesAFurey If you think compassion is the problem, why stop there? For PE just toss a knife into the class and see who survives. Unless of course there’s more to education than thinning the herd.
@JamesAFurey They do this all the time. It’s why they have alternative schools and classes for those with disabilities. You’re just advocating for a higher standard to be part of a class. They do that too. These are called honors & AP classes.

My own view, perhaps unwelcome, is the Left needs a dramatically new bottom-up solidarity that's far more affirmative of traditional religion.
It is losing contact not only with many ordinary people but also ancient republicanism virtue politics & Abrahamic spiritual sources.
NYT gave:
Clinton 80% odds early on election night 2016
Trump 80% odds at this point in the night 2020

Many don’t realize that the first people Hitler sent to his concentration camps weren’t everyday Jewish citizens, but his political opponents. So, when Trump rants about retribution, locking up his opponents, and giving them “very long sentences,” I can’t help but take him seriously… because history teaches us that is what fascist dictators do during their “Day One” period to consolidate their power. (After all, if you’re hellbent on staying in power but aren’t likely to win the next election, you can’t have your political opponents running around free.)
To keep fascism out of our lives, vote for democracy!
